Macbook Problems and Q

Hello people, i just brought a new macbook pro, my previous laptop was the ibook g4 and i never had a problem, some of the problems i noticed in the first couple of days is that the screen is weird when opening on sleep, also feels like its running on 256mb of ram, really slow when opening applications. Can i put a 1gb stick in an also keep one stick of the 256 in there also?

I have a MBP and as far as im aware both the MB and MBP have to have the same quantity of RAM in each slot. This is what i have been told.

I guess im wrong then!

Thanks for replies, i had a gig in my last ibook , it flew, but this new macbook is slow with 512 in it. silly how they put two 256mb ram in cause now i will waste on stick of ram.
