2' iMac to be delivered today! (a week early) [UPDATED W/PICTURES!]

:D I made my purchase (of my first mac EVER!!) last Friday with the configurations as follows:

2.16GHz Intel C2D
2GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 7600 GT (256MB)
500GB HDD
Bluetooth Keyboard/Mighty Mouse

Initially the Apple store said it would be shipped today (the 21st) and arrive at my hosue on the 28th. Then it was updated to ship the 19th (which it was) and arrive tomorrow (the 22nd). Then I check the order status this morning and it says "On FedEx vehicle for delivery" from a location about an hour and a half from my house. This is insane!! I am definately going home during my lunch break today, in hopes that it comes. I know I need to sign so I don't want to miss it. I think it's pretty remarkable that with all the upgrade options I picked it is already honing in on my house in central Minnesota, in less than a week since I placed the order.

Google Earth tells me that it's path to my house is close to 8,000 miles from all the different locations it went to, if traveled in straight lines, this iMac is quite the world-traveler.

This being my first experience buying a Mac I am already quite impressed, and am so happy I finally get to say goodbye to Windows.

Update:
Turns out they (FedEx) tried to deliver it far too early (9:21am) when I was still at work, and far before my lunch break (when I anticipated it). Some things never work out. Since I live in rural Minnesota, I had to drive about 100 miles round-trip to pick it up after work, because it wasn't going to return to the FedEx station until 6:30pm anyway. So, right after work at 5:00pm I jumped in my car and made the drive into the Twin Cities. I stopped for some lunch about 6:00pm, and when I was done with that, it was almost exactly 6:30pm. My excitement grew wildly. I picked it up from the FedEx location and then waited a good 'nother hour and fifteen to drive back to my apartment to get it up and runnin'. that is just purely insane.

a 2 foot wide computer screen...err..i mean a 2' wide screen/computer.

i love telling folks about the imac. they don't freak when i tell them the size of the screen, but that's it also a computer. then, they are forever perplexed and full of wonder...

get this..i don't even own one. :) lol i have a g5 and want a macpro, but the imacs are so spanky looking that they are tempting...maybe once leopard comes out with a really stable 'able-to-use-windows' bootcamp, then i'll bite. i'll be able to supplement my feable windows needs until i rid of them forever! :)

I was at Walmart just yesterday, restocking my dorm with hot dogs. I saw a pack of footlongs. As I marveled at the size (and the obvious impracticality that I don't have a bun nearly a foot long) I realized that the 24'' iMac's diagonal was as long as two of those beasts.

Did something similar for estimating the 17'' MBP's size, in fact. I ordered a 14'' sub at a sub shop, and my friend got a 4''. Took a bite out of the 14'' and there it was.

A 24" iMac is closer to 2/3 meter than 1/2 :) Almost 61 cm in fact.

11 cm longer than half a meter, and just 5.7 cm shy of 2/3!

Or exactly 2/3 yards :)

There is a unit conversion widget on your dashboard, you should reaallly check out.

actually, to me, 24" sounds bigger than 2'; but for a computer screen; it's big no matter how you describe it. my 17" (or 1.42' :p ) PowerBook feels so small all of a sudden. :o

Absolutely... congrats on the new machine.

If you need any tips on optimizing the install of OS X, or any tips... feel free to ask away.

The first thing I typically do is re-install OS X from scratch... By default, OS X installs something like 6-10GB of *stuff*... a slim install which, to my perception seems much faster, is only about 1.5GB.

YMMV. :D
