View Full Version : Which Mac games do you think still need a Universal Binary?

Yes, I know there is a Wiki with compatible games, but I was curious which games you fellow gamers think desperately need a UB, and which ones are you looking (or petitioning) for.

For me it is:
Gooball (mentioned by Over The Edge Entertainment, but probably will never happen)
Sim City 4 (announced)
Lego Star Wars (not announced)
Warcraft 3 (not announced)

How about you guys?

Warcraft 3. I wish it would be... not that it performs bad or anything. I would just like to Blizzard support the game for us intels.

All of the pretty recent major titles, if you ask me (which you did... well... indirectly... anyway... whatever... :D )

to name a few:
- COD series 1
- MOH series
- Nascar 2003

Not that these games are so new or anything, but most UB games are the real CPU and GPU crunchin' stuff like Doom 3 and Quake 4.
It'll be nice for MacBook and Mac mini owners to be able to play some really good but older games natively.
With the integrated grfx card on these Macs, you either have to play older games in Rosetta mode, or the newest games are simply too much for the hardware.

I do most of my gaming on my 360 or DS but I would really like a 100% working UB of Quinn for OS X.

Is the current beta universal binary pretty buggy?

I would still rather play a game through Mac OS rather then using windblows. Boot camp is OK for those wanting to pollute their Macs but we should support the platform though Apple has done a piss poor job supporting the gamer& the developers. Anyways the universals are coming and thats a good thing. Nothing like running native.

ya i guess your right... but why would aspyr or any other mac game developer port over a pc game to mac when it can easily be played on bootcamp, thats all my point really meant.... if you just use bootcamp just for games, you shouldnt really get any of that spyware or viruses

People don't want to install Windows. Me being one of them. Aspyr ports games over because other people don't want to buy Windows either. I don't want to waste my HD partitioning a part over for Windows, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Sim City 4 is the only one I care about. Hopefully it comes soon.

I don't play many games, and partly for that reason, I'm not at all willing to buy and install Windows just to play games. If a game isn't Mac compatible, I'm not interested. I think there are plenty of casual gamers like me out there (more than there are serious gamers on the Mac), meaning it's important (and likely worthwhile) for publishers to continue to publish games for the Mac, both PowerPC and Intel.

i think all boot camp has proved is that if games are ported theyd sell through pent up demand!!!!
