Amazon has great deals on all kinds of Mac stuff. Unfortunately, I need BTO options so I will pay full price :(

I do think it's a good time to buy. (On the one hand the 24" is an unproven model; on the other, its components and design are probably based heavily on the other, time-tested sizes. Regardless, a new CPU and screen is out now!)

The screen is stunning, I visited the Bullring store yesterday to take a look at one and it's great. I had set my mind on a 20" but it looks like saving up for the 24" now.

Mac OS X can boot from Firewire, but I seem to recall that Windows cannot. I could be wrong. Your best bet is just to use Boot Camp to divide the internal drive for BOTH Mac and Windows. Use the Firewire drive (if any) for extra storage and backup copies.

For TV I am looking at EyeTV Hybrid: it handles free over-the-air analog AND digital TV in one small unit, plus lag-free video input from VCRs, game consoles, etc.

I also bought the eyetv hybrid. It does analoge, digital and have a no-lag mode for hooking up a gameconsole. My only problem is that ai only run 10.3 on my ibook, and it requieres 10.4. So gotta wait for my iMac for that as well.

Im sure its has mor than just 4in of screen space.

My solution was to format the internal drive as WINDOWS XP only, and then boot off the Firewire 800 port for external OS X install...

Of course, I'm now running a PC case under the desk with 6 drives and 2 DVD Burners... but thats neither here nor there.

Firewire 800 is MUCH faster than any single drive you could hook up to it... so no need to worry if you are losing OS X speed by booting OS X externally :)

What we don't know is whether it's a straightforward socketed card.

Actually, isn't it like this? ....

17" GMA 950 integrated
17" X1600 integrated
20" X1600 integrated but with socket for more VRAM
24" 7300 /7600 in removable slot BUT it doesn't matter unless someone sells an upgrade card of the right shape, and with the right drivers

Fully loaded... even the 2.33 CPU, since it seems unlikely that there will be anything economical to swap in later, AND apparently the CPU is soldered anyway. I maxed everything except the RAM: only 2 GB.

I also added Doom 3, to improve my productivity.

This will be my second desktop Mac ever, and my fourth Mac total. Arrival week after next.
