I cant open some .avi files on quicktime!

a freind gave me several .avi movie packs. the first pack i cant open any of the movies and the second pack i cant open two movies. in the first pack when i try to open a movie it says: "there are some quicktime software mising they might be available at the website if you have a dial-up internet connection make sure its connected and press the button continue"
but i installed almost every codec and also two more codecs: DivX Doctor II and 3ivx but nothing happened!
please someone help me!

AVI isn't a media type, it's just a package around a media type. Try WMP or VLC.

Definitely try VLC.

You might also give Mplayer a try. Though it's not as refined as VLC, it can play some files that VLC cannot.
