Just parts, or can you actually build systems? If you can build systems, I'd give you my 500MHz board although I think you said something around 700MHz. But you could update it later.

PM'ed you!
And I wrote back. This sounds interesting and fun. I'd probably do it if I found instructions on how to install everything...

Yeah, it's fun in a really addicting way. Some friends and I ended up putting a bunch together and donating them to low income individuals and families.

Taking apart the iBook is fun. I have to learn how to replace HD's and stuff before the replacement parts arrive, so I've done it a few times. Just I've never removed the actual logic board, I wonder how hard that's gonna be. it would be worth it though for those Powerbooks!

These powerbooks would make an industrialist beam. They are nearly totally modular, and all the parts you would normally want to upgrade all accessible right under the keyboard.

Sorry man, Trent wants to stick to the iBook. Good luck finding a board though, I hope you find one quick. Although it would've been fun putting those Powerbooks together.
BTW, Trent's mind always changes in decisions. If I had as much details as possible he could say yes then we could get on it before he changes his mind again ;)

At current ebay values, it's about $450 worth of parts. Since the 500 boards are going for $150, I'm going to put the lot on ebay and come out ahead (even after fees).
Still happy to buy or trade a board here!

Damn.
Alright then, hope you get yourself a fast logic board that hopefully won't die on you.
Mine's still going since '01...

If Trent wants to swing on over to the pb's in the next 24, I'm happy to wait. Otherwise, I gots to get my board in. :D

I'll be able to show him why part of the name is "Power" since I'll be receiving a 17" G4 that I'm not sure if I can trade my Mini off for. But in the time that I'll have it I might could convince him by showing what the next model of the G3's were like. So maybe he'd be convinced. It either comes in tomorrow or Thursday, so I hope it's tomorrow.

Ahem. Nickelbackmac. It's OK, other people have done it before here, and plus you haven't had sleep. Nope, my board's still going strong, but it has no use since it's been removed and I don't think I can put the iBook back together, even with instructions. :(
techound1, Trent did get a refund on this iBook, so technically it isn't his until he buys it back from me fair and square. So maybe...

Dude, you're getting a load of good stuff because over coming the inertia to post it all on ebay has been too much for my wee self. But I really do need to get my ibook hummin' and it's chaffin me. I look at the pile of parts saying "fix me, fix me" and it just breaks my heart not to. I got nothin' else to toss in - it's now or never, baby. :p

Alright let's do this :D
I called Trent and argued with him and letting him know this iBook has probably seen its good days since it's pieces are everywhere. We agreed to build the Powerbooks together, he keeps one and I keep one, then if a 3rd one shall be built, sell it here on MR or if no luck here, eBay!
And although the iBook's body is in pieces, his spirit (logic board) remains unharmed.
In other words, the logic board is perfectly fine. Just not the iBook and it's cables and screws and that junk.

Hmm. Problem here is that realistically you're better off just buying a new G3 ibook; they're only around $150 or so for dual-USB models...

Sep 27, 2006, 08:31 PM
Well, the deal was off again because I didn't like just having 1 Pismo, and my friend wouldn't have one, but I decided to stay with the trade, build a Pismo, and sell it to Trent.
BTW, thanks to dontmakemehurtu, I'll have a 17" PB tomorrow. If my wife lets me trade our Mini for it, otherwise it goes back to him.
dontmakemehurtu, you RULE!

Where are you finding working 700 mhz g3 ibooks for only $150???

Ebay. But you can get, say, a 500mHz dual USB from OWC for $150. The 700s are quite a bit more, though.

Are you BLIND? He said "500MHz", not 700MHz! Note what I bolded! Does that look like a 700?

But in the post he replied to, and then asked for the link to a 700MHz for $150, that's not what you said. You said the 500MHz go for $150, then you said the 700's are quite a bit more. Yet, he still wanted a link to a 700MHz for $150, which is totally off from what you posted.

Dont worry about it, their is no reason to be rude of hostile. Just a mistake, and i too thought that was what he said, so mistakes do happen!

Stand down.
The original question was:
Where are you finding working 700 mhz g3 ibooks for only $150???
To which disco replied:

Note the first sentence: "Ebay." which is assumed to be the answer to the question about the 700's for $150. The 500mhz, being in the second sentence, is assumed to be a separate, but relate point. As in, "oh, by the way, you can get the 500's at OWC for $150, but the 700s that I referred to earlier are quite a bit more."
