External Monitor Mirror on Macbook Pro PLEASE HELP

Hello,


i am desperately trying to use my external monitor only when uxing xp pro/bootcamp on my macbook pro.


I dont' know why it's so difficult...


.... ati advanced settings, display tab, i don't understand the interface...

but now, when i plug in the external display to the computer, the macbook display goes black, but the external display is not recognized! how agonizing...



any suggestions?!

fixed the black macbook display by simply reverting to a previous state using system restore, some strange setting i must have tripped...


... but still can't get it to work, at best the monitor flickers and then says it is out of range....?


is it because i am using a flat panel display through a digital-vga converter?



any suggestions?
