Considering the cost they released the Lisa at, and the first Mac -- they were likely a little off.

Plus they probably didn't see the possibility of free PCs either.

But look how long some of the features of the Lisa finally took to arrive on the desktop for the rest of us anyhow.

Took forever for the hardware to finally catch up to the software.

Their vision was way, way, ahead ... which begs to say, where is Jobs really going?

Based on historical CPI data, 500 dollars in 1979 would be about equal in purchasing power to 1,375 dollars today.

if we adjust for inflation, that mac computer only has to be priced under $1300. it's amazing how inexpensvie computing is today. my athlon 64 is 5x faster than a cray x-mp, is a lot smaller, and only cost $100 (2006). wow!

Raskin was also conceiving of a much more simplified computer than the Mac turned out to be so the comparison isn't exact.

Considering that the original Macintosh could have really sold at $1499 rather than $2495, if it had been a simpler machine, $500 wouldn't have been too far off.

In saying that if $500 1979 is now about $1300 2006, $1199 for the 17" iMac seems fairly good.

So it executes an infinite loop in, what, under 0.5 seconds? :p :D
