Is there anty way to clean out the crud on an existing install on an iMac? What I mean is take out the drivers and languages and such I will never use?

You could get Monolingual (http://monolingual.sourceforge.net/), which takes out all the extra languages.

I'm posting my standard Monolingual warning again. It's a great program, but be sure to uncheck everything in the Architectures pane before you run it. Otherwise it will break Rosetta on Intel Macs and you'll have to do an Archive and Install in order to rescue your system. It's mentioned in their FAQ, but IMO they don't do nearly enough to warn people about this and make the options unchecked by default.

Yes, yes, yes...

You should do an archive and re-install of OSX... and choose only the base system install.

DO NOT SELECT any drivers, languages, extra fonts, etc.

Then... go into System Preferences... International, and delete each of them out of the list...

I have a streamline process that really makes OS X fly... if you want... PM me, I'll send it to you :)

DO NOT SELECT any drivers, languages, extra fonts, etc.well, select only the ones you are likely to use. Also, if you don't plan on using GarageBand or iDVD, deleting them saves a bit of space (around 4GB)

Yes. With this help me with my MB? I have a 60gb HD with no music, no movies (all stored on an external firelite) and my only substantial files are photos (about 15gb or so). I only have like 3 free GB on that sucker now. What gives?

my recommendation is to back any important data to your external HDD, erase and re-install OS X, omiting what you dont need. After that, go through and delete any documents you don't need, etc. Keep all rarely used documents on your external HDD. :)
