When trying to order a Mac Pro BTO, the following message appears above the Aiport option:

Please note: Selecting an AirPort Extreme card may delay the shipment of your Mac Pro.

Has this always been the case? If not, could this mean new a new AirPort revision is coming?

This has always been the case. The Mac Pros use a special AirPort Extreme card that was late in coming out and delayed shipment for anyone who ordered an AirPort-equipped Mac Pro by several weeks. I would imagine there are still supply constraints on the component.

Mind you, the fact that it's a "special card" does perhaps indicate that it has different capabilities...
