HP iPaq 1910 pocketpc device. There is an application in the works to allow me to connect it to my Mac, which I will obtain as soon as it becomes available. Until then, I am able to download the files I need to via my pc. I already moved my contacts from my computer to it, as well as entered some additional ones. Since I don't have tons of contacts and such, management is easy.
I intend to get another pda device in the near future with GPS as well as directional mapping so that I can go anywhere and not worry about how to get there. That will come in handy once I start travelling on business more. I will also be able to use it on the motorcycle, since I will get something to place it on the Harley (either on the handlebars or between the fuel tank cells).
The 1910 is nice, becuase it's small, think, light and more powerfull then the palm based devices. It's full color and wasn't all that expensive. Not bad for my first PDA device.

What's stopping you? There currently exists such a product. It's called PocketMac. Here's the link:
http://www.pocketmac.net/
That said...
I use an older Palm handheld. I'd like to get a Newton, but I'm not ready to get one yet. I'd love it if a new version of something more like a Newton2 came out. (Yes, I'm one of those people who would like to see a tablet Mac. :D)

In all honesty, from EVERYTHING I have read about PocketMac it SUCKS (and poorly at that). Almost everyone is saying how bad it is, and how you can never get support for the software. I have attempted to contact the makers of the software, but have yet to get an answer to my emails.
The software I will go with is called Missing Sync from mark/space (http://markspace.com/). The pocketpc version is in the works. I'm on the mailing list, so I will be notified as soon as it is available (even if it's a beta version). From what I have seen of the Missing Sync application, it will be very usefull and a far cry better then the pocketmac crud.

Sony NX70 for me - definitely the best PDA for my TI Powerbook!!!!!
It does work seamlessly with my mac, and have had no problems with it at all. I even dropped it the other day onto a timber floor and it is fine - very well built!

I currenly use a Palm 500 and gave my wife my Palm 505. Both of these were upgrades form Handspring Visor Deluxe models. In general the Handspring had the better user interface but without an upgradable OS, I had to upgrade to get a needed feature (beam to a catagory). As for why the 500 over the 505... well, the 500 is just smaller and lighter.

Kyocera 6035 Palm Smartphone. It's big, I know , but the functionality can't be beat, and the price ($150) is insane!
Does anyone know if this can be synced with a Mac with OSX in any way?

Palm just doesn't have the "toys" that I want and need. Sony packs so much cool things in thier Clie`. I have an older N610C, and it still rocks compared to the new palms.

Why don't you take a few minutes, search their site for OS X drivers and sync software... Which os does the damned thing use? If it's running a palm os, then get the sync software for that, or use iSync...

I had a Visor Deluxe, and loved it. I upgraded to a Sony SJ-30 and I don't think I could ever switch from a Sony product. The only downside is that I wish Sony would support Mac, but I haven't seen that in many of their newer products. =o(
But, I'm hoping for The Missing Sync for my birthday, and that should solve the last of it. As it is, I'm only missing the "higher end" aspects, which I can get by syncing with my PC for now.

Well... I already said it's Palm, version 3.5.3 to be exact. And I already checked their website, which says to contact Palm about getting a "MacPac" connection kit. In addition, I had checked the iSync compatibility sheet at Apple.com and it didn't mention the Kyocera 6035 anywhere. This is why I asked the question here, seeing as I figured knowledgeable people on this forum may have some clue as to how to sync this phone with a Mac running OSX, which barely existed when the phone was originally produced.
So, AlphaTech, don't be so quick to judge. Anyone else, any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's what I thought. Then I got one. Short of audio/video work, it does everything I could want.
I was interested in a laptop, but my palm (humble and not too expensive m130, had I known the usefulness of a modern-day PDA, i'd have gone with an m500 or tungsten t) has supplanted that interest.
I simply can't believe that pressing the button is all I have to do, and my address book, iCal, memos, photos, finances, and documents really do synchronize, just like that.
I even found an app (3k) for tuning my violin!

Fair enough. I knew someone who was anxiously awaiting PocketMac before it was released, so that's why I asked. I've never used it myself...
Re: Syncing a Palm based phone...
What kind of Mac do you have (USB port?)? Did your phone come with a serial connector or a USB connector? If a USB, then you don't need to get anything. If a serial, then you need to get a Palm Mac Connection Kit (or something like that).
Then you need to download the Palm Desktop for Mac software from the Palm website. Once you have that installed on your computer, you can install the iSync pack for Palm (it uses the Palm HotSync conduits to do its syncing). Then just follow the instructions, and you'll be good to go!

I use one made by Symbol running Pocket PC for work. I audit small business inventories and this allows me to keep track of what I found, plus it has a bar code reader. The calendar, phone book, and MS Excel and Word all sync with my work laptop, A Panasonic Toughbook.

Thanks Snowy_River. It's a serial connector, so I need some sort of adapter for USB. I don't have a Mac yet, which is why I ask. I'm planning to get a PowerMac this Fall (hopefully 970's will be out by then!) so I wanted to make sure that my Palm Phone was sync-able. I love this phone, and would have a hard time not being able to sync it.
Hey, Scemo, this phone is only $150, the same price as a regular Sprint phone, plus you get a Palm to boot!

I have a Motorola phone that (I think) has everything I really need- good address book, calendar, schedule, etc. I'm never far enough away from a computer to warrant spending cash on another toy.
I would like one of the Tungstens but you can't get them here yet. Samsung just released a phone with Palm OS and a good sized screen. I'll trade in my Moto for that in the near future.

Have had at one time or another; Palm IIIx, Vx, 515, and a Jornada 540. Finally went back to the Newton. Got tired of loading and reloading my palm software each time the batteries went dead. Also, bigger screen and more expansion options with the Newton. If Apple was to release a new PDA based on the Newton, I'd be first in line. Until then, it's me and my little green friend.

My trusty ol' Palm m505 still comes in handy as an ebook reader, an electronic newspaper, a dictionary and an agenda.
I'm on my third Palm (m100, V, m505) and it's set up to synchronize with MS-Outlook and it does a surprizingly excellent job of this, despite not being a Microsoft product.
I did just spec out three Blackberry 6710's for the office, but had to cancel the order because their wireless protocol does not meet our IS Department's secure network standards. The only wireless PDA that's on their approved list is the Blackberry 957-8. As such, we're going to leave a lot of guys with Palms, modem-equipped Laptops & Cellphones instead of going to a convergence device.

I'm considering this as my next phone and PDA, so I don't have to lug as much around. While it doesn't seem to be OFFICIALLY supported in Mac OS X, I've read in the Apple messageboards that it works fine with Palm Desktop (and iSync) in Mac OS X.
Not speaking from experience of course - I'm not yet eligible to get it cheap through my wireless provider - but some have tried this and it seemed to be successful.
Give it a try and see what happens!

Glad to see so many Newton users out there. Mine still works but it was starting to feel like the proverbial Motorola "Brick" cell phone. Last year I got an IPAQ and was frustrated as hell until I got PocketMac and was able to move my nearly 1,000 contacts (Claris Contact as the go between) to Entourage with about 95% data intact! Still waiting for the 21st Century reincarnation of the Newton...

I have a Palm IIIx that I have had for a while. It is alright for keeping track of contacts and meetings. With its small size, it is easy to carry around in a suit pocket. I also have a Newton 2100. The Newton is superior to the Palm in every way except for it's larger size. Data enty is much easier on the Newton and I am able to take notes with it which is something I wouldn't even consider with the Palm. It is also nice not to lose your data everytime the batteries go dead. I would love to see Apple develop a new Newton/tablet.

I wear it all the time like a pager. It is very nice to have all my addresses and notes with me at all times. The e-mail is probably why I always wear it. No Mac syncing yet though. :(

I used to have a Sony Clie PEG-N710C...but I sold it on ebay and got me a Newton 2100, and I couldn't be any happier. I don't have to use grafitti....its got a nice, big sharp screen....and there is still support out there after all these years....you can now sync it directly through Mac OS X to your iCal and address books, as well as load packages via OS X, although I'm using the Newton Collection Utilities in Classic mode..which allows me to backup and such.
Other than the lack of games (NES emulator coming soon to the Newton though), the Newton is probably the best PDA I have owned so far in my short little life (17 years).

Thanks for the info on cheap LCD screens....I could use a couple...but I'm still getting a Sony (20"+) CRT as my main monitor...nevertheless...I could still use extra real estate...espically if i'm messing with massive amounts of source code in college.....argh...

I also have the Kyocera Smartphone 6035. When I bought it, I got a $50 rebate so it cost me only $100 for this great Palm-powered PCS phone!
I sync it with my iBook every day, and I use iSync with it, too. HotSync and iSync work together. HotSync syncs all of my Palm applications except Address, Datebook and ToDo's, at which point iSync takes over as part of the HotSync operation. (BTW, using iSync, I sync my Palm phone, iPod, iCal, AddressBook, and .Mac all at once!)
All you need to get is the Palm serial-to-USB adapter.

Compaq Ipaq 700 series (3735?). If I had it to do over, I'd probably go Palm. The Ipaq battery life, while typical of Pocket PC's, is just too short. I'd rather have something that go at least a week on AAA's My Ipaq is good for a day at best under (my) normal use. The Pocket PC does have the advantage of letting me run MS Money and sync it to my desktop, but otherwise it's bulky, heavy, slippery and a battery hog.
The best device I've owned was a Kyocera SmartPhone - a great phone and a great handheld in one.
