In some respects I can't say I blame Apple. With Burger king naming its new Fry box that fits in a cup holder the "frypod".

I think thats going just a bit too far. The word Pod has ment a hell of alot more than just iPod. Yes, iPod belongs to apple, pure and simple. But if another company has a product and it is appropriate to have Pod in the title, then they should be allowed. Apple comes across as a big bully here, and its not nice.

Although its not necessarily right, I understand why Apple is going after these companies:
If they dont police their own trademarks then there is future potential for misuse. It's apple intellectual property,
If company X uses the "pod" trademark and doesnt get stopped, When company Y tries to use it and get sued by Apple then their response will be:
"well you didnt stop company X from using it, why should we?"

Just because a company has a trademark, doesnt mean it cant be used. Anyone can use the word, but its up to the original owner to stop it's use and continue to attempt to keep its own property.

It may be a stretch for them to stop everyone from using the word pod, but for every successful intervention, it just makes apples brand that much stronger. They must police it themselves for it to hold up in court in the future.
