in yet another thread of questions about LaCie drives, I'm encountering an odd issue with my 2 LaCie external FW drives.

While I'm working in FCP, the access rate for the video drops, I get the swirly busy signal and the drive acts like it's been asleep and has to wake up and catch up to me.

I have a G5 Dual 2GHZ Processor with 2.5 GB of ram riunning OSX 10.4.7. I'm guessing it's a firmware issue for the LaCie drives, but I'm coming up blank with an answer as to where to adress this particular issue on LaCie's website.

No, OS X turns drives off when they are not in use to save power etc.

You can disable this in the power saving preferences.

My off brand "custom" external drives do it and my "brand name" ones do too.
