The 10.2.5 Update delivers enhanced functionality and improved reliability for the following applications, utilities, services, and technologies: Address Book, AirPort, AppleScript, Bluetooth, Classic compatibility, Disk Copy, Disk Utility, Finder, Help Viewer, iChat, Image Capture, IP Firewall, Kerberos, Mail, OpenGL, Print Center, Rendezvous, and Sherlock.

It also refers to this Knowledge Base document (http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n25406) -- which is not yet posted. The Apple Store page also indicates that 10.2.5 will be available as a free download via Software Update.

10.2.5 seeds have been ongoing and an update is expected soon.

Is this a premature release? Will we see 10.2.6 then???

Hmm...the update ships in 1-2 days, but the KB and Software Supdate don't see it. I think the Apple Store may have slipped.

Woohoo....hopefully they fixed the "battery problem" as well!

Here's a couple of pics of the info, if it gets pulled.

why would it get pulled?, its for dialup users or people with no internet access. It will be like the iLife package, there was no need for it only to make it easier on everyone. I'd rather pay the money than download 1.5GB worth of stuff via a dialup connection.

Expect this to be in SW update tomorrow or even on monday along with the new Safari Beta v71

The posted link is expired, but if you go to store --> Apple software, it's right at the top.

I meant pulled if 10.2.5 wasn't supposed to come out for another week or 2.

The last 10.1 update was 10.1.5.
I wonder if this will be the last 10.2 update....

As it's available on CD, does this mean it's big? As in > 100 MB? Or will they aslo include iLife (except iDVD) on the CD, and maybe Safari...?

Update discs have always been available through the Apple Store for $19.95.

I think this will be a bigger than normal update. It will also be a good way for people with computer labs that aren't connected to a high speed connection to update from 10.2 to 10.2.5, covering all the updates up to it. It's a great idea, IMHO. It will probably also have some features or updates that were waiting for a bigger update, but are ready to go now.

I just hope it's available for download soon.

mac15
Apr 10, 2003, 09:32 AM
the update is only 35.8mbs, its hardly a big size

Mac15: The disk requires 10.2, therefore it installs all 10.2 updates, so...

10.2.5=35 MB
10.2.4 (Combo)=97.1 MB
Total=132 MB

This is a pretty hefty dl for someone on a dialup modem. Id say its worth the $20.

I may have missed a detail somewhere, but if they are charging $20 for the update cd, why then, are they going to offer it as a free download later?

That's the big question - and we're all waiting to see when it gets posted. I don't see them expecting everyone to jump at buying a $20 CD to get the upgrade. Hopefully we'll see it real soon.

Has anyone purchased it yet?

All i am truly hoping for in this update, or at least my major desire, is for faster startup. It takes just way to long on my new powerbook to start up

I'm still waiting to updates to CoreAudio, CoreMIDI and Audio Units. Has anyone seen a shred of evidence that Apple has been developing these techs?

If they've finally fixed the dialup connections, it would be worth more than $20 to me. Since 10.2.4, I've had to restart the system several times because of a disconnect loop.

There are also the negotiation failures which have been around since the public beta.

I wonder how many printers will start to work again after this update arrives. I noticed that my Epson SC900 was again compatible when 10.2.4 was working on my system.

People with crippled connections will buy the CD because it will cost LESS than pay-per-call dial-up.

Everybody look for early indications of 64 bit support in various menu selections. If the 970 is imminent this release is likely to be the one WWDC users upgrade FROM for whatever steeviepoo has in store for them.

Have you noticed Apple is slowly prepping to have proper hardware and software for even Pixar to buy?

Apple is about to rock.

Yeah. I will none the less not buy the cd but download it as soon as it s on the servers :)

I think we will se 10.2.6 coming out as after the 10.2.5 there are up to 5 month before the release of panther...
There will certainly be another update!
( panther is supposed to be released in september or am i wrong ? )

According to Looprumors, Panther is due in the autumn.

But to paraphrase...

I want my 10.2.5!!!
(and my Safari Beta 2)

Not exactly, it states quite clearly that it's also available now via "Software Update" for free. This will also be a downloadable update. Problem is that it isn't there to be downloaded yet, so why has Apple stated that it is in a posted page?

This seems like a screw up, and the page may get pulled or at least edited soon. A thread is starting in the Apple Forums...

Just in case any one is adding numbers of people waiting for these things, you can add one more.

As posted already, it's for those people without internet connection or a very low bandwidth connection.

The $20 pays for printing/packaging, etc... Yes, you could argue that the wholesale is probably more like $3 but whatchagonna do. You are going to pay for having it on a CD to take anywhere. I don't have a CD burner etc... and want to carry it with me, etc... who knows. Apple and many others have done this in the past.

Shoot! I check this thread, then I check the iPod thread and 10.2.5 is already out. Found out on Looprumors, while looking at their mockup of the ipod. Nice, by the way.

I bought the 10.2.5 CD because I have only the built in 56k v90 modem connection.

New hard drive: Install Jaguar from 10.2 CD, then upgrade with the 10.2.5 CD.
... or is that too simple?

I really wanted to add yet another Apple CD to my collection. :D

I hear where you're coming from. I only have dial-up at home, partly because I am having difficulty finding affordable equipment and services that will allow me to get DSL or the like. Where I live in the UK, all of the offered DSL modems have USB connectors and not Ethernet and so far all of the units I have tried have had no appropriate Apple USB drivers, other than those for OS 9. :(

Anyway, what I do is get someone with a high speed connection to d/l the required software updates and burn them onto a disk for me, usually a re-writeable, that way I can have a back-up of the latest SW update at the minimum of cost.
