To be honest... Apple could put the largest drive they have in their low end unit but what will drive me to buy one is the price. The low end is still too expensive for what I would use an iPod for.
Another way to get me to buy an iPod would be to give it a feature that would replace one of the other Personal Devices I carry around.

Gimme an iPod with input capability (for PDA) and I'm in. Way in.

top of my wishlist is mp4, but they should be able to do this in current HW...it would have to be something totally out of this world for me to put down 400 big ones again.

I voted no. Personally I have no interest or need for an iPod. Pleased to see the 50% responded yes. My wife would be interested if it would have the features of the Palm Pilot m505, she uses it for appointments and to get medical information.

yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes!
ok, enough with the yeses. i will buy the new ipod without doubt unless i see something bad like, i dunno, DRM crap or something equally unsavory.
price is my number 1 request. followed closely by AAC. anything else is a bonus.
waiting, waiting, waiting.......

I'd love to. Sweetest device alive. But money is an issue, so I had to vote maybe (you never know).

I think that if the iPods are updated soon, and the price is right, then I will probably buy one.

My question is: To all those who voted "yes", is that a "Sweet! I gotta have one of those but I can't afford one", or "Yes, I have the money to buy one"?
IMHO, it's a mistake to keep the base model at $299 if in fact that is going to be the case. Apple still has not learned the cadinal rule of consumer electronics: they *must* get less expensive over time in order to gain/maintain marketshare.
We still need a $199 iPod for that market. People are increasingly price sensitive, especially Wintel people.

The real question is whether to wait for a 40GB (or larger) drive or go with the 30GB.

Tell me you're not serious. You'd bypass a brand spankin' new 30 gig and wait for a 40?
That's CRAZY TALK, man! :p

personally I like the minimalist looks of the current iPods so if the new ones come out and look like the rumored rendering then I'd say no, I won't buy a new iPod but if the prices go down on the old ones then that might prompt me to buy one of those.

Where's the 'My iPod is fine for my needs option?'
My 20GB iPod I bought in August is still going strong for me. Don't need another 10G of disk space to put another 3 days of songs I won't get to listen too any time soon.
right now I have a play list that is just 'songs never played' and it's 3 days long in iTunes

hell no because if the buttons are not anywhere near the scroll wheel/touchpad like the current one then it's going to be hard to use it

no one has any faith in Mr. Ives and Mr. Jobs, they are both completely obsessive about both functional design and aesthetic design.
let them do their work, hold one in your hand, and don't judge before you have felt it.

I'll have money and I'll get one. I'd really like it if they had a tuner, but the absence of one won't keep me for getting one. I'd also like to see a price break....
:D
(Something as trivial as the configuration of the buttons - usually just a matter of what you're used to, especially with a company like Apple that puts serious thought into functionality - sway me away from getting one...)

Well, they did screw up the original design of the ipod earbuds, right? And later changed them so that they are smaller and fit into most people's ears without pain.
I have similar fears about the new rumored ipod design. As someone with very small hands, I don't want an ipod that has buttons designed for big hands. And truthfully, with the proposed price drops being less than expected (given the lower than expected size increases), I will very likely look to another company for my mp3 needs. I'll try out a "new" ipod first, but if it's not ergonomically good for my hands anyway, I might as well spend just go and buy some other mp3 player for less money. Design and money are really huge factors for this poor small handed person. If I don't get a spectacular design, I might as well get another sub-par design for less money.
That said, I can't tell what the new design will be like in reality until they come out and I play with one. I'm hoping with all my might that it's an improvement on the previous design, not a step backwards. But I'm not convinced yet.

Hands too small for ipod? These things aren't big. From what I have read, the size of the ipod won't change and they are already a pretty good size for the features it has. I read in another forum that the chrome will be gone on the new version and that it will be all white like the front and hopefully have a chrome Apple logo on the back like the iMac has on the front. I think that would be sweet. I have an iMac and I love the chrome apple. Not sure If I like the new design with the buttons above the wheel tho. Either way, I'm sure it won't be ugly because, lets face it, there are people at apple whose jobs are to design cool products and they have done an awsome job so far. I have been saving and budgeting for a while now and am waiting for the new one to come out so I can enjoy itunes on the go. Has anyone heard of "iTrip"??? Cool little car adapter for ipod that plays through a radio signal. Wow! no need for a cd player or even a tape deck. back to radio hehehe!
Oh Yeah, one more thing about the chrome logo. This may seem a little far fetched, but one day "ONE DAY" I would like to see the chrome apple become a security device. Fingerprint recognition! That would be sweet!

Does anyone else think that these polls are flawed if 50% of people will buy a new iPod along with a heap of others that MAY buy one.
:)
Me's thinkin' that most people who think to answer are either thinking about buying an iPod or are buying one... not random people.
