ive been getting that junk for awhile now, but still not as much as i see others on normal email accounts getting.
.Mac used to filter that alot. im hoping with the new .Mac mail interface coming it will also add some of the Mail.app functionality...like the Junk filters.
When I register for sites, and essentially for all contact with 'unknown entities' I use the .mac alias feature. It's pretty sweet. You might want to consider giving it a try.
That's a good idea that I hadn't thought of. I recently used my mail on a site and my spam-free mail suddenly gets 3-5 pieces of junk a day. Perhaps that will help.
I use spamgourmet.com for registering my email address on sites I think may spam me, or sites that I only want, say, one news article from but where I have to register. Details are at the site, but here's a quick explanation:
Let's say you register at spamgourmet.com with the username 'username'. A site called, say, Macrumors asks for your email address. Well, you know this Macrumors is a disreputable site, but they won't let you post anti-Mac flames unless you register. So you give your address as, for example, macrumors.2.username@spamgourmet.com. The first part ('macrumors') can be anything, in fact. The number '2' determines how many emails from macrumors you want to receive. Any mail after that (in this case, from the 3rd email onwards) gets eaten before it reaches you.
Generally, SPAM message have spoofed headers, and when you bounce it back, it actually doesn't do any good, as the real SPAMMER isn't listed in the header, instead it's just some poor joe who's address is being used without his knowledge. Not his account necessarily, just the e-mail address.
