if its in the dock right click the itunes icon, then uncheck the "open at login" option...

Hope this helps!

Also, in your Hard Drive's Library, there's a folder named Startup Items. Does it appear in there? Do you have any iTunes-related widgets? 🙂

dont have an ipod connected plus i have the 'open itunes when ipod is connected' button unchecked in itunes preferences..also nothing the in startup folder

ah ha..i know what it is now--you were right its a widget that i have which checks bands touring schedules, so it must open itunes each time it uses its database, thanks a bunch

ok, i have another question.
generally, i like iTunes to open all the time so that it'll download podcasts whenever there's a new one. that is, i make it automatically when i log in. but it opens its window as well. is there any way to make it just open and run only in the dock?

In System Preferences, go to Accounts and then Login Items. From here, there should be a checkbox next to iTunes which you can check to ensure it opens but remains hidden. You can do this with any Login Item. Is this what you're after? 🙂
