after installing new HD I can't move the Cursor

IBook G4 I installed a new hard drive and I am trying to install OS X but my mouse pad will not move my cursor. It is stuck in the upper left hand corner of the screen?

Does it respond to the keyboard? Does it respond if you use an external mouse? Have you tried resetting your PMU (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449)?

Or have you unseated the connector for the mouse pad? Its tricky to pull out and very tricky to put back in.
