Does anyone have any information on this racing sim? Seems like everything I find is old news. Some say it won't even be released in the US. EB Games (http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=T000324) has it slated for release on November 1st as F1 '06 but I've read (and see from the trailer below) that it has a new name as F1 Champion Edition. Anyways it looks fantastic. There's a cockpit view and pretty nice looking effects including rain. I also read that you can unlock historic F1 cars. What a blast. Here's some gameplay footage (http://www.playscope.com/@@@8990-formula_one_champion_edition.html&medias=Videos)from September 21st if you're interested.

I can see myself getting back into on-line racing with something like this. In Hi-Def on my 50" with Dolby digital 5.1 sound - I want it NOW :D

isn't this the game that Sony demo'd using the PSP as the rear view mirror?

According to IGN it has no release date in the US but March 31st 07 for Europe and Dec 1st 06 for Japan.

I hope it comes over here to NA.

This had better be good, because the EA games pissed me off. Especially the ones that didn't get released in the U.S.

I would love if you could unlock classic tracks (old Hockenheim, Spa, Argentina, Watkins Glen, Long Beach, etc.) along with classic cars. Not like it matters, as I most likely won't be getting a PS3.

Impressive graphics, I hope gameplay will be as good.
It's been a really long time since the last good F1 racing game on a sony console (F1 '97, PSX).

Does anyone know if they're coming out with a version for the xbox 360? Wow, Im a big fan of F1 and I might just keep the PS3 I pre-ordered if they wont have it for the xbox.

It will be exclusive to the PS3 since it's a Sony product.

Graham Hill, Jim Clark, Dan Gurney, Jack Brabham... What a year :p

this was listed for ages as a UK release title, but no mention of a US release at all. BUT then Sony pushed back UK release 5 months - which might explain why the developers have decided to release it in the states afterall.

I hope they use the time to polish on-line multiplayer and stats as well as third party controllers and force feedback. Speaking of which - have you seen the new Logitech G25 (http://youtube.com/watch?v=yB_kWmbmX6I)? Whoa. Combine that with an A1 GP (http://www.playseats.com/) Racing Seat and you've got yourself one heck of a setup

i want that wheel for GT so bad..I'm hoping my current setup will work with the PS3. It's a classic Logitech Momo & TSW2 pedals (http://www.ftmyers.com/momo.jpg) that I wired together over USB. Works on my Mac and on a PC, so I'm hoping it works on the PS3. SCEA better include force feedback in this title

Holy ****! That wheel looks awesome! Does anyone know if I can use that with the xbox 360? And that F1 game, I might just get a PS3 afterall, even for that game alone.

This just in (http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/745/745210p1.html)...
"Moving onto the subject of PS3 launch titles, Harrison expressed 'delight' with the initial batch of PS3 games. "We're launching with a stronger line-up of first-party titles than we had with the launches of PS1, PS2 and PSP", revealed Harrison. "The difference this time is that more have come out of Sony's Worldwide Studios than before. Bearing in mind that we launched PS2 with Fantavision as a first party title - great game though it is - it's by no means the game on which you would rest an entire format. But look as PS3 launching in America with Resistance, Genji, NBA in full HD and Motortorm. Plus an F1 demo available day one as a download and retail games coming out very shortly after the launch."This reminds me of how excited I was to get my hands on the Grand Prix Legends demo way back in the day. It was just one track - Watkins Glen. Nobody complained. We all just mastered that track and had a blast while the developers finished the game. I can't wait for the 17th!

I WANT THIS GAME NOW!

Ok gotta start saving for that PS3! I loved Formula 1 2001 nobody could touch me on that.

Online head to head? is this game capable of that?

WICKED! I felt like Ayrton Senna watching this video .... well dreamt I was :D

Man I still miss that guys driving prowess and his passion & anger on the course against Frost! I Dont think we'll ever see a driver like that again. Sure Schumacher finally beat all his records, but look how long it took him to do so; and with the Sophistication of the machines in the last 5 years do things for the driver. He's skilled yes, and it took him 2 seasons to beat Senna in a race, but something about how Senna drove and the cars back then .... man true drivers, no assisted braking or Antilock back then.

Is it more of a simulation game like forza/GT, or more like an arcade game lke ridge racer/PGR?

It's finally here :D Picking up my copy at EB Wednesday afternoon. With all of its shortcomings (no FF being the biggest, IMHO) I might still have some fun with this. Not getting my hopes too high though...

Is it more of a simulation game like forza/GT, or more like an arcade game lke ridge racer/PGR?I'd lean towards sim', although they've included enough options to scale it down to arcade level for those who want to jump right in and run with the big boys - albeit the boys from last year  The view from the cockpit is amazing, BTW.

This has been getting very average reviews in the UK.

Both GAMES™ and EDGE™ gave it a 6

However I really enjoyed the demo, and I dont like driving sim style games.

I like all the auto stuff to make the game arcadey.

I also think this is the first PS3 games I've seen with loads of FSAA, as there isnt a jaggie in sight and whilst it looks lovely, and strangely more detailed than ever - it's so clean looking that it actually looks less real than more.

I am going to get this though.

Sure Schumacher finally beat all his records, but look how long it took him to do so;
Micahel's 42nd win (to take 2nd overall at the time from Senna) was the 2000 USGP, in his 8th full season, 9 years and one month from his first GP. Senna won 41 races from his first GP in 1984 (Brazil) until his death at Imola (May '94), that's 9 full seasons, plus the first three GPs of 94. Also, Prost won 51 from his first GP in 1980 (Argentina, 1/13) to his final retirement after winning the '93 championship. That's 13 full seasons (he didn't race in 92). Schumacher beat that record at the 2001 Belgian GP, in his 9th full season, 10 years and 8 days after his first GP (also Belgium), and 9 years and 3 days after his first win (again, Belgium).
Senna's first win: Portugal, April 21, 1985; Last win (41): Australia, November 7, 1993
Schumacher's first win: Belgium, August 30, 1992; 42nd: United States, September 24, 2000; 52nd: Belgium, Sept. 2, 2001; Last win (91): China, Oct. 1, 2006.
He beat Ayrton to 41 by a few months. The only record of Ayrton's that took a long time to beat was the Pole record.
no assisted braking or Antilock back then.

Erm, 1993 was the height of driver aids (ABS, traction and launch control, active suspension, possibly more). ABS has been banned since the 94 season.

I thought ABS was banned in the 93 season?

"1993 the year ABS and power brakes were banned in F1" http://www.motortrend.com/features/performance/112_0702_formula_1_driving_experience/details.html

Also manufacturers have gotten around that restriction and other restrictions. remember McLarens Fiddle Braking System which was eventually banned? Active suspension, ground effect aerodynamics, and turbochargers are banned under the current regulations.

Interesting tidbit, or atleast i thought it was "At full speed downforce of 2.5 times the car's weight can be achieved. The downforce means that the cars can achieve a lateral force of around four and a half times the force of gravity (4.5 g) in cornering - a high-performance road car might achieve around 1 g. Consequently in corners the driver's head is pulled sideways with a force equivalent to 25 kilograms. Such high lateral forces are enough to make breathing difficult and the drivers need supreme concentration to maintain their focus for the 1 to 2 hours that it takes to cover 305 kilometres."

This game is soooooo awesome...Yeah it's definitely the best F1 racing simulation ever, IMHO. All it needs is force feedback and some added enhancements for on-line communication. Hopefully now that Immersion and Sony have come to an agreement, SCEA/Studio Liverpool will be able to patch FF into the game. Does anyone know if that is even possible? I guess it would have to be bundled with a system upgrade, or possibly available through the store...

Is just having rumble enough to call it FF? I thought FF is when you fight a steering wheel or something.

Hmmm, now I remember Williams ran with A.B.S. on the FW-14/B in '92 but I didn't think any driver aids were banned until the end of 1993. Hmmmmm.

There was a thread on the Atlas F1 forums that if I recall discussed the possibility that on the original Jacarepaguá circuit that the cars could momentarily hit 6G on the corner after the back straight. There were similar suggestions about the Curva Del Sol on the original Interlagos track too.

Anyway... I do hope the cars in this game don't handle like go-carts like all the previous F1 games have done.
