Intel iMac - my worst Mac ever

In the three months I've had my Intel iMac I have had to restart it (much of the time with the power-on/off button) more times than I did with my G4 iMac during the three years I had it.

I am also having incessant issues with it not sleeping in a manner consistent with my Power Management preferences; with dock unhiding going down intermittently; with not waking up from sleep; with the system freezing when invoking sleep from the Finder; and various other stuff that just doesn't occur to me at this moment.

What steps have you tried to address your problems?

Maybe you should take the machine back to get repaired rather than tell random people on a forum? There is definitely something wrong with your machine, I own 2 Intel Macs and both are completely flawless. I've never had a kernel panic on either and they are on 24/7.

Take it to get repaired. there can be bad memory or a multitude of problems.

Vast majority of people like the product.

if you have a lemon, get it fixed

My history of problems with my iMac:

Bought in March/06-THOUGHT was flawless and beautiful

june/06 HD abnormally loud. replaced with new quieter seagate

Sept leading into october- Apps randomly quitting. Logic Board replaced.

I got this machine back on thursday. It is now saturday(where I am).Just discovered my LCD likes flickering. Waiting for MacBook.



I am so dissapointed. I am one of the few who have lemon iMacs.

I have always gotten lemon machines, like my HP Pavilion A500N and my Compaq Presario R4225CA(I know that off by heart from calling HPCompaq so many times:p )

People say that the third time is the charm. I am hoping that my MacBook will be good.

Now where is the smiley that is crossing it's fingers.:p

Definitely, as mentioned by many above me, get it fixed. It's got that nice warranty for things like this... :)

As for lemons when buying HP's and Compaqs... I thought that was part of the deal?? :D

Seriously though, working with a few different IT departments over the last few years (as side stints), the common thread between them has been to avoid Compaqs like the plague (before they dun merged with HP)... they never worked quite right...

sounds like bad RAM. Maybe something else bad, like a logic board, but I'd bet RAM. In any case, I'd bet 2 to 1 it's hardware issue and can be repaired. That's just not normal behavior.

I switched from PC (20+ years) to an iMac C2D 90 days ago, and while I absolutely love the thing when it runs, it has spent almost as much time in the shop as it has in my house. First it was the logic board, next it was the ram. A double-whammy lemon! We're doing fine now, though for 7 days running and finger crossed. So a bit of persistence and patience pays off. My biggest gripe really is with Apple customer service -- the Apple Care CSR spent more time trying to sell me an extended service plan than helping me diagnose the problem. Once I had it into the store, they made three date-certain return promises and didn't keep any of them -- and never notified me. Took a call to Apple Custmer Relations. Feeling better about it all now, though. Hang in there and just keep at them.

You've had these problems for 3 months and you haven't contacted Apple yet?

Yup time to take that puppy into the Genius Bar or set up a case number with Apple Care (under warranty ) and return it to Apple for evaluation and repair.

You want to establish a case number with Apple Care in either event.

They will instruct you to either send it back or take it in to the local store.

I third that! Got my imac 20" 3 weeks ago. ABSOLUTELY love it. Switcher from Sony Vaio laptop.... I had no idea how much easier it is to use..
I will NEVER go back, guess I've become a Mac addict!:D

My first intel iMac crashed all the time. It crashed twice the first time I started it up! I lived with it for about a week, then realised there must be something wrong and sent it back. My new one hasn't crashed once.
