hi im a 1st time switcher
sorry if this thread is dupe, i tried searching related keywords, none suit.

1. i want to upload .dat movie file (VCD format?) to the youtube. the file is big 86mb. and it's a tv resolution. so i want to resize it and maybe it will reduce its size in order to speed up the upload process to the youtube.
since i no luck on finding good s/w around macrumors & google, i stumble upon isquint, to resize it to ipod size screen (although im using it for youtube). but it returns error on converting: Error while parsing header. and the log goes this way:

Could you just pull the MPEG-1 out from the DAT file with something like BBDEMUX or vcdgear? Then you'd have a standard .MPG file you could do what you wish with...

Hi, I recently bought the JVC Hard Drive Camcorder (http://www.internetvideomag.com/Articles-2005/072505_JVC_Hard_Drive_Camcorder.htm). Why the movies can't be imported to the iMovie?

Please look at the attachment.

Thx in advance

You'll need to convert the MPEG files into an editable format BEFORE importing into an editing program. The MPEG family of codecs is heavily compressed and was/is designed to be a delivery (final) format - not intended for editing.

Try using QuickTime Pro or MPEG Streamclip for converting ... for use in iMovie, conversion to a DV Stream (.dv) should work best.
