View Full Version : What's with the fracking 'rolls eyes' gif

That's it I've had to see one too many of those irritating little gifs. I don't mind the other ones but that 'rolls eyes' is so fracking corny. I hesitated at first when I applied the block code to it, but now that it's done I feel much better.

So anyone wishing to answer any posts of mine and incorporate that nauseating gif, be warned. I won't be seeing it. ;) :D

I'm not a fan of the rolleyes smiley, because I always think it implies the poster that you're replying to is an ass. But then there's some people who's posts just seem to invite it...

Yes sort of but it's worse than that, it's a bit like the new apple ad where PC says "touché". The rolleyes gif impies that some brilliantly witty point has been made when in fact they have completely ballsed it up. Where all the other Smilies have some purpose, (to slag someone off and pretend it's a joke for example) the rolleyes is just santimonious.

Or by using the rolleyes gif the poster can pretend to him/herself that everyone agrees with their comment. When in fact everyone else is squirming thinking "don't count me in your little delusional conspiracy.

The rolls-eyes smiley is enormously useful when being self-depreciating. Also highly applicable when posting in the Politics/Religion forum about the latest nonsense from Westminster or Washington.

I think it's usually a misinterpreted smiley. I've seen it misinterpreted as assholishness™ quite a few times on this forum, when someone just made a sarcastic remark and never intended to sound like a jerk. No offense, but usually the person who makes the remark is from the UK, and the person who misinterprets it is from America. ;)

I avoid it because Abstract doesn't know what it means (he's from North America, you see).

no your right. people watch the show.

i'm not worried about people using the sci-fi curse from the tv friendly show.

it just means the word wont be censored here. its sort of like a faux curse that gets the point across. you would use F^cking if you could, but hey not normally accepted here.

course you could type it out and see what happens.

as for the not liking the rolling eye's gif, wow, big difference it will make in your life. blocking an computer expression. wow looks like your concerned about the big issues in life.

Only snobby-know-it-alls use rolleyes.

But sometimes it is necessary so people know you are joking.

You should always speak with your doctor over these matters. The wrong treatment can be tragic...

I'm still a fan of iMeowbot's two recent avatars. First the one filled with rolleyes gifs and now the MR logo, blueified and with roll eyes.

Good stuff.

The rolling eyes icon is useful for showing that you're rolling your eyes. Some people write stupid stuff that you can only roll your eyes at. Hence, the rolley-eye icon. That said, I hardly use it...it's much more direct to simply write: "What you said was stupid, and you're an idiot!" Simply rolling your eyes is often too passive and subtle--if the person really is that stupid, it's likely that the rolley-eye icon will not make a sufficient impression. :)
