When i click to shut off my mac in OSX 10.4.8 it takes 60+ seconds to turn off...

I don't remember it taking this long when i first got it...

What's weird is it botts up in just a few seconds but then it takes forever to turn off...

Is there anything I can do to speed up the shut down?

Disk defrag or something?

What apps are you running when/before you shut down?

Safari, Mail, iChat and some odds and ends... Think that would do it?

Will do..

I am going to try it out now and let you guys know how it goes...

Also I have like 10 things on my desktop... Should I file them? Will that make anything faster?

Nah, makes no difference. Just the same as having files anywhere else on your hard drive.

Some applications may take a long time to quit, especially if you have little RAM. And some refuse to quit at all for me - well, Firefox, specifically.

having a lot of open fonts will definitely slow your shutdown time. If you're running a font management utility or even FontBook in OSX, make sure you quit out of those before you do shutdown.
