Steve Wynn (of Las Vegas Bellagio and Wynn fame) accidentally poked his elbow through a Picasso which he'd just sold for $139 MILLION. Obviously, he's letting the buyer out of the sale and he's going to have the painting repaired and keep it himself.
Talk about your expensive mistakes!

tough break. maybe after the repair, the buyer would still be interested. it's definitely an interesting story to tell.

That would knock at least $40 million off the price of the painting, thusly making it more affordable.

Now that painting will end up at a scratch-and-dent auction sale...

At least he can afford to have it restored. Won't be the first perforated masterpiece. If memory serves me, "Night Watch" by Rembrant had a triangular piece sliced out of it a years ago. When I saw it, it looked as good as new.
Don't panic

I think he bought it for about $40 million, I'm sure he would still make a profit if he sold it, albeit not the $100 million profit he was about to make.

Maybe it becomes more of a collectors item in the future...Picasso impaled by Vegas Tycoon...
A very expensive mistake to be sure, but perhaps it is just a fake - say this was a fake made and this will conceal that there was repairs to it so then he sells the fake for the 90-100 millin and still has the original locked away somewhere for a future generation....maybe I am watching too many movies...;)

...say this was a fake made and this will conceal that there was repairs to it so then he sells the fake for the 90-100 millin and still has the original locked away somewhere for a future generation....Eh. If I were rich enough, I'd still rather sell the original-- I don't want to deal with the hassle of keeping it properly preserved and maintained. Way too tricky. And I'd probably also want insurance for an original and that would be astronomical.
Nah nah, much better to sell it, and keep an amazing replica. :o

Speaking of which, did you see the episode of NUMB3RS about that. Your post reminded me of that episode. It was really good.
