Hello.

I'm currently shopping for a new router. Just found out that my 5-years old one slowed me down to a third of my actual connection speed. (Silly me)

I know that there are routers out there that prioritize gaming. Have you guys tried any of these? Do they slow non-gaming traffic significantly? (internet, emails, etc)

I'm looking for:

- A Wired router
- 4 ports is more than enough
- Gigabit would be nice for transferring big files from puter to puter
- Router must play nice with Xbox 360 and upcoming Wii and PS3
- Router must play nice with Airport Extreme Base station connected to it
- No need for printer port, I will plug it in the Airport base station
- Simplicity and reliability a must

Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks

P.S.: I plan on doing a lot of online Phantasy Star Universe as soon as it's released ^_^

Thanks for the suggestion but I can't seem to find anything about your router by googling its name. Can you tell me who makes it? Also, I was preferably looking for a wired router since I get sub-standard wireless reception in my apartment.

Anyone have experience with these gaming routers?:

D-Link (http://games.dlink.com/)
Linksys (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1146774321820&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper)

Netgear doesn't seem to have a gaming tasked router.

Thanks ;)

Netgear doesn't seem to have a gaming tasked router. Heck, they don't even have a wired gigabit router.

My next door local big surface electronic store seems to have only 4 wired routers on inventory. Which one would you choose? None appear to support gigabit ethernet.

Thanks ;)

Is there a reason you do not want to use a Switch?

Is there a reason you do not want to use a Switch?

You're talking to the guy who has been running his internet connection at 1/3 speed for more than a year. Can you explain to me the difference between a router and a switch? Which is best for me? ^_^

The router gets the connection wiredly (is that a word ;)). You can use ethernet, usb, or wireless to access the wire. I'll look up info on the router later. :D

just because netgear doesnt say 'gaming' don't eliminate it from your choices. linksys is pure ***** and dlink a step above. people may have had better experiences but from doing plenty of netowrk installs over the years 3com, netgear, 2wire are some of the more reliable ones
