I have a dual 1.25GHz FW800 PowerMac for sale. It has the following upgrades:

- 120GB Hard Drive (BTO)
- Superdrive (BTO)
- extra 512MB of RAM (from Crucial), for total of 1GB

The system is a bit over month old and in perfect condition. I am an "unsuccessful switcher", and that's why I am selling. :-(

Please send reasonable offers to my barrrt at mac.com address, or post here and I will contact you. Those who are local (central NJ), I have the system set up if you'd like to inspect it before buying.

Thanks,

Bart

Sorry to hear it.
Are you selling it with a monitor and any included software?

No, sorry, I am not selling the monitor (I've been using a dual input one for now, while evaluating the Mac, so I need it to continue using my PC).

The system comes with all the software preinstalled by Apple on current PowerMacs. However I can leave the system as is (sans my documents), e-mail me for more info.

Thanks,

Bart

I'm curious too. What did you plan on doing with it and why didn't it live up to what you needed?

That's a considerable amount of money to layout for a machine, was it a personal computer or was this something through your job?

iJon & dukestreet,

Let me start by saying that I do like the Mac, and the general direction in which Apple is moving with OSX, digital hub, et al. But, I miscalculated my need for this machine, at least at this time. I've followed Apple since last year's keynote at MWNY, and have been very impressed with all the things coming out of Cupertino. When I got into video editing three months ago, I decided it might be time to take a leap and get a Mac to use as my primary machine, while keeping my slowly aging PC to play ocassional game and do some work related stuff that requires custom PC software. However, after playing with FCP for a little while, I must say I am very disappointed with it. Yes, I understand it's a program for professionals, and one with a steep learning curve, but for *my needs* it compares unfavorably with something like, say, Vegas Video on the PC (especially the need to pre-render so many things instead of them being in real time is a major drawback for me). So, I spent money on Vegas Video and went to plan B - edit on the PC burn DVDs on the Mac. iDVD is actually all I need, but its inability to import standard MPEG-2 created on the PC is a pain. I have to render my stuff to DV format, then have iDVD re-encode it. There were few other minor disappointments (iPhoto must be one of the most overhyped programs ever), but they are not of importance. What do I like about the Mac? OS X is definatelly great, especially the fact that its based on BSD, and all the Unix goodness that comes with it :-) iTunes is simply awesome - it's one thing I am truly going to miss, especially since it updates my iPod's playlists so easily. Safari is shaping to be a great browser. Mail has great way of dealing with IMAP, much better than Outlook. And so on... Overall, if I could get an iMac without the flat panel for under a $1,000, I would, just to make it my internet surfing/music server machine, and if I could connect to it remotely (as in remote desktop) from my Windows PC it would be fantastic. But for now, I'll get rid of the Mac, and will take a look at Apple again in 12-18 months :-)

Bart

PS. Another thing, which I have not tried, but read much about is regarding how bad Quicken for Mac is.

hey barrrt, you were saying how you wanted an iMac without
the monitor and such. Well, you might want to check this (http://www.2khappyware.com/)
out. The site JUST came up, and these Core computers look
very interesting. It sounds just like what you need in adition
to your PC. Low cost, and everything you need. GL with your
powermac.

Don't know if you'd be interested, but I'll throw the offer out there.

I have a 12" powerbook that I'd consider trading for your rig, It's fully loaded with 640MB RAM, 60 gig HD, SuperDrive, Airport Extreme, etc. and an Airport Extreme base station.

You seem to be interested in having a nice Mac for doing your Web, Music, etc, and it's nice to be able to do it all over the place, and you can keep your iDVD functionality and still have your FCP/iMovie/etc to use if need be, as well as all the BSD goodness.

As school is finishing up for me, I'm looking to get the most powerful machine for dev work that I can, which is why I'm looking to swap the laptop for a desktop.

Anyhow, thought i'd throw out the offer.

Thanks for the offer, but I am not interested in a laptop at this time.
