Hi. I have an ibook G4 that has a 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4 processer, and 512 MB of memory built in. All I really have on it is the start-up programs, and I've deleated everything that I don't use. Is there any way I can get it to run faster? It seems every day it gets slower and slower. Any tips, hints, or links? Thank you!

Deleting things doesn't make it go faster.

Buy more RAM. Lessen how many widgets you have running. Make sure you don't have anything unimportant in your Login-items list, in the Accounts system preference. Make sure you're actually quitting programs, not just closing their windows.

Your 1.42ghz iBook is actually very fast. You just don't have enough ram in it. Also, you probably have a Fujistu hard drive in it that only has 2mb of cache. Upgrade the hard drive to 7200 rpm 100 gig and max the ram out at 1.5 and you will have a GREAT GREAT GREAT, fastest and best iBook they will ever make. Wish I still had my 1.42.

Buy another 512mb of RAM and that G4 will sing for you.

Don't waste your time with 512mb of more RAM. Don't make the same mistake I made.

Buy a 1gb stick and Max that puppy out! It will be oh so satisfying.

what applications are you running that speed is an issue? I agree about the ram, the minumum recomended I think is 512... if youre running Safari and this is part of what makes you think its slow, read the link below and see if you fit into this..
