Did i make the wrong decision?

Hey guys! As some of you may know i just bought a White macbook 1.83. Ive been looking at all the posts about the MB and ive been getting worried that i might have made the wrong choice. Dont get me wrong, i love this thing except how dirty it gets(invisishield soon) but ive noticed that alot of people like powerbooks or ibooks alot too. Since there older im sure they are more solid. I guess im just looking for reassureance from you guys... thanks.:cool:

Well, my macbook is in the shop for repairs due to random shutdowns, so is my friends.

The first batch of macbooks were terrible. Just terrible.

If you only just bought it you should be fine, there great machines... when they work.

LOL. I was being facetious. I literally just got a 1.83/2 gb/80 gb Macbook delivered today, which I got in a trade with another MR member for my old 1.5 ghz/1.5 gb/80 gb 15'' Powerbook. And yes, I really enjoy the MB so far! Just wanted to see your pants bunch up a little :p

P.S. I ordered a 160 gb hard drive from Newegg, which I'll throw in there next week, so I'll have lots 'o space :-)

If you're really prone to bad luck, buy AppleCare just for piece of mind.

Try to max out your RAM as soon as you can afford it and you'll be delighted
with the results.

with the results. I have apple care:) thats a must man. I learned my lesson with my last laptop(damn dell) Also another question, when you order applecare from apple direct, do you get some sort of box or sheet saying you have it or is it just in your code?

You'd normally receive a box/something or other for Applecare. I got boxes with some stuff, while other stuff came with an envelope with a sticker on... nice.

I think it's normal to feel like that when you buy an expensive item. Any little thing will stand out and make you fell all down and depressed. If it gets dirty, simply clean it. No big deal :) Everything gets a little dirty at some point.

Was the dirtiness the thing that was making you doubt your decision? Or was there another factor? :)

Make sure you activate your applecare - when you buy it either online or from the store, what you get is a box with a code inside of it, and you have to activate it in order to link it up with your machine. If you don't do this before your original warranty runs out, you can be out of luck

Actually there is, and its a big one. Universal Binaries. Its amazing to me how slow some programs run on the new intel macs. Such as Microsoft office and PS. :(

Because they didn't get a go with G5, a lot of apps barely slow down in comparison.

I got my MacBook in mid July and haven't had any problems with it. No random shutdowns, nothing. Well, maybe a little discoloration in the wristpad, but it's probably just dirty. I'll have to give it a go with a Magic Eraser and see what happens.

However, a friend of mine had a problem with the optical drive in his MacBook. It wasn't reading CDs properly or something. He got it fixed though. Not sure if he had AppleCare or not.

well, if I had checked here before I bought my MB, i would go for a iBook G4, it was only $614 at local CompUSA store.
But.. since you already got it, then don't worry too much, you are not alone, RSS might be a problem in the future for you unless u have week 635 or later MB, but apple should be able to taking care of it at pretty fast speed. Just remember that you are not the only one who will have problems and many other user's experience will greatly help you when RSS happen.

Well, i currently own a G4 ibook 14 inch, and i am thinking about getting a mac book this holidays. What do you guys suggest. Its only about 8 months old and runs perfectly, i just wanted to up grade since the G4 book are already obsolete. What do you guys think?

I would suggest you hold it for another 3 month untill apple clear all the bugs in MB.

I would hate to think of myself as one of few, but I bought my blackbook In May. This was right after they came out. The only problem it has suffered was that the isight crapped out about a month after buying it. No other problems whatsoever. Great machine.

Wait till after Leopard (Spring/April-ish), unless you've got a ton of money to throw around. The iBook works perfectly and all, and it's only 8 months old so I'd hold off for awhile.

thanks guys for the reassurance! i feel way better about my purchase. But to the applecare topic, i did NOT recieve a box/letter/envelope etc. i didnt get anything but im positive i bought it because i was billed :rolleyes: maybe its time to make a call.

Thanks for the reasurance too. And even if i had tons of money to throw away i wouldn't throw it away. My view on it is that apple perfects their products beofore they stop making them. And seeing that my ibook was the abosolute last on in the line, and well, the highest end of the ibook series, i think i can hold on to it for a while longer. Thanks again.

And to the other dude with the macbook, i almost both one to replace my ibook, so seriously dont worry about it. The last time i checked, the benchmarks were great.

Useless, you made the right decision. I got my Macbook a month ago and I love it. As for the Applecare, it will come. Mine came after my computer (even though my computer took 16 days to get here).

The wrong one would have been to buy a Dell. Not a Mac.


MacBooks are awesome, enjoy it. Once I started enjoying my iMac it made me fell alot better about buying it.
