View Full Version : Whose buddy lists am I on?

This might be a rather pointless question, but is there any way I can find out who has me on their AIM buddy lists? Any site or special program? I'd be interested to see... Of course, it might be invading people's privacy, but hey, it's my screen name.

Just thought I'd ask here, since I couldn't find out via a google search.

Thanks.

I think you're on mine, but then again, so are like 200 other people that I don't know.http://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=251202

Nope, there is no program out there for that. AIM uploades some of the things but doesn't allow you to know about if you are on _____ buddly list like ICQ does.

Your not on mine, but if you want to be I'll add you. :p

actually - there is a trick. If you have the person on your buddy
list and they have an away message up, then message them,
and if the away message pops up then you are on their list, and
if no away message pops up then you aren't. This might just
apply to PC's but I doubt that since AIM is multi-platform, and
an internet based app.

I wonder if there's some way to hack the system... I think that it'd be nice to know who has you on their buddy lists. Then you could find out whose stalking you

I just wanted to know because there's some people at school that I suspect may have an interest in me... :D

To be honest I'm not sure what AIM involves, so it seems that you are not on my list!

aim always does the away message thing no matter what, but in iChat it doesn't...even if you are away and you're on their buddy list and they're on your buddy list.

i think what hes referring to, is that if your not on their buddy list, a dialogue will popup, asking them if they want to add you, instead of just sending their away message to you. i dont know if this would even work right and/or be a viable solution.

Not true, I have people on my buddy list and they don't have me and their away message pops up...

I might find a person in a chat that is away and I'll message the person and their away message comes up...

Bah. No way to know really, unless you hack the server find the lists, an easier way is
a) to ask him/her
b) hack their computer, personal computer users don't know anything about how to protect themselves.

I haven't heard of any ways to tell whos buddy list I am on, either. But, it would be kind of interesting to see. :D

btw, you aren't on my buddy list.

I think what scem0 was talking about only works when whoever you are IMing has "Notify Me When New Buddy IMs Me" - what's it called? Knock-Knock? Where a message pops up when someone not on your list IMs you. If they have that setting on then the Away Message will not be sent, because on their computer a little "scem0 has just IMed you" message will appear and they'd have the option of clicking "ignore user". If they have Knock-Knock off, though, the Away Message will be sent.

To answer your question, there is something at that IMchaos.com site where you can put a link in your profile that says "Click Me!" or like "Nakey Photos" or whatever, and then it lists everyone who clicks on it. Won't show you EVERYONE on your list but is a good way to see who's reading your profile (and who likes Nakey Photos).

Yeah, I was referring to what Davis said. If you MESSAGE them
while their away you will get their 'autoresponse' if you are on
their buddy list. You won't get it if you aren't.

BlueManTubez: hello

Auto response from lalanig: pizza burning next door
be back later tonight

It should look something like that. But if you aren't on their
buddy list it would just look like this:

BlueManTubez: hello

This might just be a PC thing, but I doubt it.

You've lost me! My definition of STD is sexually transmitted diseases. Are you calling my name funny?

Well, you're not on my buddy list but I gave your screen name to Aladdin and they should be stalking you to upgrade Stuffit to v7.0.3 now. :D

no :D! There is someone from MR who messages me on AIM from
time to time, and the first letters of his name are S, T, and D. So
I call him STD. ;)

I was at the Adium forums, and the author said something along the lines of if you sign on for the first time in iChat and your buddy's icon loads without you IMing them, than you are on their buddylist. I haven't tested it, but an easy way would be make a new user and sign on your existed account with the new user. (iChat cache could be lurking anywhere)

Hi,

About the Buddy List, i have 316 (what Fire says) buddies.

BTW, iChat have its own website with forums :

Sorry Scott.

All I have is WGA Mentors listed, co-workers/ former co-workers, girlfriend's screen names, my own so I can remember which screen name I am on, and ignore feature set on my preferences for everyone not listed. This is not an anti-social thing. It's a self-preservation thang.

Otherwise I would get IMs from people I don't know soliciting for products and services that I wouldn't be interested in. Which, unfortunately has been happening way too much in recent years. No, I don't want hair tonic! No, I already have computer, why do you ask if I want a PC?

I think you get the picture.

WGA...a.k.a. Writers Guild of America.

But equally valid:

Woodland Girls Association
Wild Girls Aroused

and uh, okay that last one made my brain stall... :D ;)
