One of my friends owns a white macbook and recently the battery has just not been recognized. Up at the top where there should be a battery symbol has been a black x in the picture of the battery, so the comp only runs when plugged into AC power. The battery wasn't charging or anything so it wasn't coming out of low battery mode. I tried reseating the battery, checking the screws in the compartment, cleaning out the contact points, and resetting the PMU to no avail. What else can be done?

Call up apple so they can replace it for you...if it is in warranty.

Did you press the power indicator on the battery..did it give you a charge?

It's under warranty. Go get it replaced.

I tried hitting the indicator - nothing.

I thought it might ultimately come down to getting it replaced, thanks guys

While waiting for a new battery: Take the battery out!!! My MBP did the same. I keept the battery in there thinking "Can't hurt". While working with powercord attached the battery suddenly got really warm and became double size. If I hadn't been there the battery would surely have fried my MPB
