hey all,

quick question: when an applecare-certified repair center replaces your hard drive under warranty, does apple keep the old, faulty hard drive? if so, is there any way i can persuade them to let me keep it?

it's actually a friend's laptop, and her hard drive is slowly dying (loud noises, os lockups, etc.). we managed to get her iphoto library off the hard drive using firewire target disk mode. however, target disk mode stopped working (the drive won't mount) when we tried to copy her itunes library off. we have a repair scheduled for today, and i would like to keep the drive to see if i can still get the itunes library off, perhaps with one of those ide -> usb/firewire adapters.
