So I've been running XP on my MBP for awhile now, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get the icon for the Windows XP partition off of my Mac desktop.

I'm not sure if it is possible, because I've tried a lot of stuff, but has anyone been able to do it? I know you can drag the icon to Trash and "eject" the HD, but no way to remove it permanently.

But what is really the point of having my NTFS HD partition on my Mac desktop anyways? I can't change it, just view its contents. Seems kind of pointless.

Go to preferences in finder and un check the box that allows HD's to be viewed on the desktop:)

But that would take the Macintosh HD away too.

The simplest solution that has been oft reported: Follow one of the many threads to change the name of your XP partition/volume and make it start with a "." to hide it.

I never knew you could do that. Thanks.

I made an Alias for my Machintosh HD icon, then went into preferances and told Finder not to show the HDD icons on the desktop.

Still have access to Macintosh HD, but no pointless Windows HD icon.
