So, my PowerMac Dual 2.0 died 3 years and 6 days (Panther release party) after I bought it and from what I can tell, it's the logic board. Not wanting to spend a grand on a logic board (WTF, BTW!?), I am thinking of bailing on it and parting it out.

What do you guys think, worth it?

It is this box:

and I added another 2 GB of RAM.

Thoughts?

Edit: I do not have bluetooth or an Airport card for this box. Sorry.

You can watch for a used logic board on ebay or sell it on ebay, you should be able to get a good price. I did this a while back with a G4 800mhz Powermac that had a bad logic board. The money got let me custom build a much, much faster PC.

It's sort of funny that a broken Mac can get you a PC that is much faster than a Mac when it was operational.

no i dont think so. they are different motherboards

I think he means put a 2.0 G5 processor, into the socket on an old 1.6 Mobo.

I'd be interested in the Ram and maybe Airport if you have it.

if jonasmac doesnt want all of the ram, i could take a stick (id need to know the specs of the ram first though). lmk

I think he means put a 2.0 G5 processor, into the socket on an old 1.6 Mobo.even then they would be different mobos. the 2.0ghz mobo would have a different front side bus speed among other things, so i dont think it would work...but who knows

I'll edit the above post, but I don't have bluetooth with it or an Airport card.

It is headed to the Apple store for a diagnostic test tonight.

I might be interested in the case / Power supply. How much would you want for it ? (Shipping is probably about $30)

I'll be building a PC soon and an Apple case would make me feel like less of a traitor. Some dremelling and drilling isn't a problem to get things lined up.

Does anyone know how close the PSU in the G5 is a standard ATX PSU? I know that later G4's were only two wires different and easy to modify.

I would think the biggest problem aside the from raping the case to get it to fit the ATX mobo, would be that the power supply probably doesn't spit out the connectors you need, and I don't think that you can just switch out that PSU for another one. It might work, but I doubt it honestly.

Can you PM me the serial number on it?

Did it just stop working? also, what happens? does it turn on for a split second, not at all, etc?

I am also interested in the whole thing.

Lemme know,

Jason

Sure. I'll send it over when I get a chance.

It gives a ding and then just sits there with the fan revving higher and higher until it is maxxed out. No video output or keyboard/mouse response. Doesn't access the HDD.
