Finally finished this today, no in-progess pics though...

It's an ole' Pentium III 800Mhz running MEPIS

I might try and get a way to stream videos to the projector over wireless with this or something

Basically I wanted a smaller tower.

It's not mine, I got lucky to know a friend who has a carpenter for a dad! It took a few months for me to get a chance to get up to Minnesota to get him to cut it for me, though. It'd be nice to have those kinds of tools some day, too (he used a belt sander to round the corners on the TiMac), but I live in a studio, and have no money, so I'll have to wait.

yay rant time! I've been working on this little project for a couple of months.

Project Wind Tunnel

1 Sawtooth AGP 450 Mhz, 7 fans, 1 fan controller

Why? Planning to get a processor upgrade soon. Want to keep it nice cozy and cool while it's in my Sawtooth. I'd say it's overkill, but I still did it. :o

How does it all work? Lemme explain.

As you can see in the diagram below, the layout is pretty simple. Two fans for intake, two fans for air circulation, and three fans for outtake(there are 2 fans in the Antec TruePower power supply but who's counting? :-p )

The fan controller controls the two intake fans located on the bottom of the case. Settings are low, high and off. Simple. The other fans are constantly on and are quiet enough to where they don't bother me.

Now for power, my stock PSU crapped out so I had to use the ol' PC ATX PSU mod thingy to get a higher watt power supply unit up in that beast. Just a two wire splice deal, not hard at all to convert a PC PSU to a Sawtooth PSU.

Whenever i get that upgrade, i will then have 9 fans cooling my system (2 connected to the processor). maybe i can fit one more in there for another outtake just so i can say i fit 10 in there. :D

Well, thank you, but I haven't done anything special really, especially compared to some of the geniuses on macmods.com. Man. Those guys blow me away. I look forward to seeing your entry next year, though, and hopefully I'll think of something to enter as well!

When both of the intake fans are at full blast, they can get unbearable. The only remedy is turn up my music or to switch them at low speed which really doesn't make the 60 mm fans spin fast enough to suck in the needed air. Usually I have one at high and the other at low. Really I don't need any of them on right now since the stock CPU in the Sawtooth doesn't require that much cooling. I'm now considering buying a knob controlled fan controller instead of using this 3 setting switch. It would look better and I could then find the sweet spot in fan speeds, one that isn't too loud, but still does it's job.

There are some good fan controllers at FrozenCPU.com Thats where I got the 3 speed switch fan controller. They offer controllers that fit in your standard floppy/ZIP and CD drives.
