My brother recently added 3 more Maxtor 500GB drives to his MacPro... And since then, the computer takes a loooong time to restart, search through spotlight, closing an app, opening an app, basically it just slows the computer down..... Is this normal when more drives have been added? Even if he just connects 1 more drive, it's very slow doing the same that I mentioned above...

He wants to do a RAID system, but since he noticed this problem, he's thinking twice about it..

What could be causing this problem? Were the wrong drives purchased?

I think I'm having the same problem.

I'm thinking spotlight.

It might be spotlight indexing the drive. Just leave the computer on overnight (turn off sleep mode) and that should take care of the problem. Else you have some funky driver issues going on! If that's the issue, make sure your drivers are current and then reformat the drives. You did buy Sata 3GBS drives didn't you?
