They are like drugs....legal drugs!

8 here as well, however, I only ever owned 2 at a time. The upgrade bug just hits hard.

B&W Click Wheel, but the battery's starting to go...tempted to grab a new iPod instead of bothering with the battery replacement. Considering that a Shuffle's almost as expensive as a new battery...

Uh, oh, maybe I'll have to change my answer to a pending 2...

Why is there no 'None' option? Am I being discriminated against? iPodism? Seriously, none. I don't need one, though I'd get a Shuffle for morning walks if they halved the price.

3... but only 2 at a time... my first ipod (which is almost full) was my 60gb ipod photo... then i bought the 4gb black ipod nano when it was released (the first generation nano)... then sold that the day the brushed aluminum ones were released and got a 4gb silver :)

I think I'm gonna sell my 60gb ipod photo in a couple weeks and get an 80gb video ipod, and i'm contemplating getting a shuffle, but i dunno... while it's awesome, i'm not really sure i want an ipod without a display :/

- 40gig 3rd gen (since given to my dad)
- 1gb shuffle (first gen)
- 60gb 5th gen video
- 4gb first gen nano

so i currently have four of five, however the original 5gb is mostly decorative...

Wow. After they replaced my first generation iPod for the third time, I started thinking that maybe I should upgrade. So far the original flash 4gig Nano has been taking a lickin' and is still tickin'...its probably the best gadget I've ever owned.

I've owned 4 iPods. I had a 10GB 2nd generation that ended up with an old girlfriend. The rest that I am in possession of are a 40GB 4th Gen, a 1GB 1st Gen Nano, and a 512MB 1st Gen Shuffle.

Two thus far, what with my recent purchase of a 1G Shuffle. I will be trading up for a video iPod if it lives up to expectations, as I'm just now getting into the whole portable music video/DVD rip love.

I enjoy the iPod and mine has definitely worn its money worth and held up quite brilliantly (even after I dropped it in a slush puddle back in December, where it sat in the rain for 8 hours). I've used my 5G at least an two hours a day every day since I bought it 1 year ago. My biggest problem is that I keep killing my headphones. :(

Who in their right mind would own zero or five iPods? It just doesn't make sense, so of course it's not in the poll. Zero indicates you must be an Apple-hating Microsoft spy who wants a Zune, and five...well, it's just not right. Just ask Monty Python.

Just wondering...why have more than one at a time? Has the sound drastically improved or something? Or is it just gadget-mania?

Yes to some extent from what it seems like and from what I've heard others say, and yes (especially the people who have all 29!).

I use my 6GB Mini for running and my 60GB Photo for holding my entire catalog & podcasts for the car/work/airplanes/traveling.

i only have the 80gig and Shuffle.

sold the 15gig because i out grew it, sold the mini because it couldn't hold my 5 star playlist anymore, sold the 4th gen 60gig because the 80 gig came out.

Two. Started out with a 1st gen mini, which served me well for over a year until I broke it. It was in the pouch of my laptop bag. I flipped the bag open, and it flew out and landed on the other side of the room. The unit still worked OK, but something in the click-wheel broke, making it impossible to press the down-side of the wheel (play/pause).

Now, I'm using a 4G 2nd-gen nano. Same wonderful colored metal case, but even smaller, and in color. And I'm being much more careful with how I choose to transport it.

At least Apple gave me a 10% discount off of the new one for trading in the broken mini.

One. A 1st Generation 1GB iPod Shuffle (which is now back to life thanks to the Shuffle Utility).

I mainly bought this to use as a Flash Drive with the optionality of using it as an iPod from time to time; my Dad takes it to thegym daily, but that is about it.

1G iPod shuffle 512 MB

Same here. But I picked 4.

1) 2nd-gen 30 GB iPod
2) 4 GB green iPod mini (gift, lost it a few months later)
3) 4 GB green iPod mini (free for opening Citibank account, sold it)
4) 1st-gen 1 GB iPod Shuffle (gave it to my mom later after i got the nano)
5) 1st-gen white 4GB iPod nano (sold it after I got my SonyEricsson phone)

But currently I own NO iPods because my SonyEricsson phone doubles as a music player. When Apple releases an iPhone, I will buy that. If Apple doesn't announce an iPhone in January, I will probably just get a SonyEricsson W850i phone.

hehe

Actually I have no use for an iPod either unless they build one that can play full-res SD Video, never got the whole exclude yourself from the world by earphone thing. And I personally hate the borg-tech iTunes "we really want to be a s popular as M$" software lol.... hey just kidding, they wanna think different from M$ if they can... no really.

Except off course M$ gets sued when they include software to kill the competition, Apple gets market share :P

anyway going way OT here.. sorry.

Currently awaiting my third (should be here tomorrow; 4GB Silver Nano!), but I have:

15GB 4 top button/touch scroll wheel (loved the red button glow with the backlight on!)

20GB Scroll/Click wheel BW model.

I've been using them as backup firewire drives, so plan to keep them until they fail. Might use them for paperweights after that :p

I've used four iPods.

1G 5 GB
3G 10 GB
4G 20 GB Ipod Photo
Ipod Nano 4 GB (blue)

It was always one iPod at a time until I got the Nano. I still use the 4G for my main music and use the Nano for Live (Concert) music. Love the non-gap feature.

Just wondering...why have more than one at a time? Has the sound drastically improved or something? Or is it just gadget-mania?

I'll field this one.

Basically I have two at the moment. One is a 4G/1G Photo 60GB which holds pretty much all my music, podcasts and anything else audio wise I can be bothered to put into my iTunes library. The other is a 4GB 2G nano which I bought for the sole purpose of using with the Nike+ kit and running with, but I do sometimes use it for general use.

If I had just the 60GB, I would have fewer options for running and listening to music, certainly with the feedback the Nike+ offers me. If I just ahd the nano, I would be restricted as to what to listen to. I like to have all my music with me, to be able to select something in an instant. If I loaded 4GB of music onto the nano and went to work with it, I would quickly be looking for an album or song that I felt like listening to then, which I didn't earlier when loading the iPod and feel annoyed.

If/when the widescreen-video-touch-iPod-thingy arrives, I'll probably go for that too. It'd probably have to have around 100GB to be able to store all my music, plus a lot of video too. Either that or start to compromise. Either way, different iPods, different uses.
