For some strange reason and without thinking too much about it, I shared a folder on a Windows XP NTFS partition, mounted it under Mac OS X 10.4.8 and started copying a file to it reading from the DVD-RW of my Macbook.

The copying process started alright and then all of a sudden I realized I was writing to NTFS. Huh?

I thought mounting an NTFS partition would only give you read options. Or am I wrong? I immediately checked the files on the Windows partition and they seems to run just fine.

Does Mac OS actually write but it's not a guaranteed write or what? What am I missing? :/

You're not writing to the NTFS drive. Your Mac is sending the data to the Windows machine, which then writes the data.

That's what I thought since the time of my first post.
Thanks 😀
