Song Link: Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95, "From the New World": IV. Allegro con fuoco by Berliner Philharmoniker & Herbert von Karajan (http://www.dailytunes.com/songs/20061104130812.html)
Comment: This rendition of the finale of Dvorak's "New World Symphony" is nothing short of bombastic. The New World Symphony is one of my two greatest Symphony Nos. 9...perhaps the greatest.

This is indeed an excellent symphony. I've had the pleasure of playing it numerous times with the Symphony Orchestra and it's always a joy. Listening to it is great, but being a part of actually playing it is simply amazing.

I envy you. If I can get back in practice I am going to audition for the local symphony in my area (not CSO) and get back into orchestral performance.

Yes, it's great to be able to play. :) For me, it brings me a balance as well. By day I am an Electronics Engineer and Technology Project Manager, so I'm pretty much using my left-brain all the time. Sitting in front of a computer, in a cubicle, in meetings... Don't get me wrong, I love my job, but as I said, I need that balance - one can only take so much of that type of work. So whether it's playing in the symphony, playing sports, going to the gym, hiking, writing, acting or modeling, I like having activities like these outside of work to keep me well-rounded and to keep things interesting. I don't know what I'd do without my music!

Dvorjak's Symphony #9 is one of my favorites. I happened to listen to an LP on my Rega Planar 3 turntable and was mesmerized. I thought the CD was good, but the turntable produced a hauntingly beautiful rendition. By contrast I thought the CD sounded sterile and the turntable put the life back in.

This is truly a wonderful piece of music. I am going to the symphony to hear this on December 2nd. They are performing the Moldau as well, which I also like.

I also have had the pleasure of playing The Moldau on several occasions, and yes, it is a magical piece as well.

Yes indeed. As I said above, a great piece to listen to, but that doesn't even come close to how enjoyable it is to play. One of my favorites for sure.
