External viewing monitor?

i have an imac g5 2.1ghz runnign FCP, can i use my mini dvi adapter to have a batch monitor that only plays video? everytime i plug in the video cord to just put it otn eh tv, my resolution gets really low and crappy and it sucks.. is there a way for my to do it so my resolution stays good on my coputer and only the preview screen in FCP plays on the tv?

For older iMacs, you will want to enable spanning to let the second display operate independently. screen spanning doctor (http://macparts.de/ibook/) can do that.

I keep my video deck (or camera) connected to the computer and have Final Cut send video out to my camera and than hook up my camera to my TV through AV cables.. works great

that screen spanniing worked perfect! now using my minidvi output and a video cable my regular tv is a second monitor, thanks alot!
