Ouch!

When it's from Best Buy, that's when. Turns out those suckers valuable consumers who nabbed a PS3 pre-order from Best Buy's online store are getting the cold shoulder from the mega retailer. Best Buy sent out a curt email to customers the other day saying, "Your preorder for the PlayStation 3 gaming system will be canceled." Best Buy sez that its online store system was not "intended to take preorders," despite the fact that Best Buy availed its online store system to just such an purpose. As a consolation, pre-orderers are getting a $10 Digital Coupon towards a future www.bestbuy.com purchase, but we're not sure that's going to do much to cheer up little Jimmy on Chrismahanukwanzakah morning.

Yeah, better retailers will get the business now.

Over-ordered?

Did BestBuy take any money up front?

If they did that's cheeky, sitting on people's money, earn some interest, hand it back.

If not, then with any luck they get a kick up the ar** from negative publicity.

Bestbuys online shipping rates are some of the most inconsistent as well as most ludicrous as well - just my 2 cents

I don't think BB charges your card until they ship.

At least that's what their online store said about my WoW BC:CE that I have on pre-order. Here's hoping that doesn't get cancelled! ;)

Not good. Bad Best Buy, Bad!

Hope no Best Buy pre-orders made their way on eBay. If some did, some seller are about to feel the wrath of tech junkies willing to shell out 1K+ for a launch day console. *gulp*

I heard you had to go around some stuff, like you couldn't just go to bestbuy.com and there was 'ORDER PS3 NOW!', it was kind of burried in the site as I saw people passing out links on another forum saying that it was hard to get. Dunno if that was just hearsay or not though.

Businessweek is running an article on it, one of those "poor kid whose father wants to make him happy and will wait in line despite his bad back because Best Buy cancelled their pre-order" stories. I think it was pretty heavy-handed, but it got the point across. And I think this is a lousy PR move by best buy; the backlash is going to hurt them. 10.00 for cancelling the pre-order? come on. And the PS3 is out soon, so it's not like the people who used Best Buy to pre-order can jump to another retailer. Poor form.

I ordered a 20GB model (don't care about Wifi), and got it canceled Tuesday morning. I did get a $10 coupon though, so that's sort of like half a game right there.

I'm not too upset as I've got a HUUUUUGE backlog of other games to play. By the time I get through it, it'll be 1H '07, and you'll be able to walk into a store and get a PS3 (probably).

You won't be saying that when you've ran out of HDD space for all the game installations! *not saves

Doesn't matter as the hard drive is user upgradeable, and plus I can just delete off the temp files.

Be sure to look out for overpriced Sony-branded HDD's!
