Thats great, they should just start selling PCs without an OS to let the end user decide what they want on it. Again, this would only be an option for those who are computer saavy.

true, for the computer savvy now, but over time it would become the norm. slowly. once digital cameras were only for the computer savvy. once a trend is started things slowly trickle down into becoming standard. although i will admit i would hate for apple to ever do this.

The only problem with making it an option is many would not understand spending extra for Windows. I know when I use to work at compusa people would say they ran Office not Windows. Could you imagine the headaches for customer support people?

"But, I didn't need Windows I have a copy of Office right here already? Now why the F%$@ won't it work you (extremely long and detailed list of colorful expletives, regarding the persons general upbringing, breeding and life philosophies)."

I always find Dell easily buckle under pressure. When my monitor broke they did nothing with my calls, saying they couldn't do anything about it. Then I kick up a fuss on the phone and they asked for my home address to send a replacement to :D
Maybe it's just a UK thing?

Hey,
Just wondering, what happens when you click "Do not accept" on the EULA of new preinstalled windows machine? I have never done that before, so.. does it just shut down the computer? it is "just wondering" question :)

I think that it initiates the auto-destruct sequence. ;) :D

It will shut the computer down.

Reboot, and it will ask again.

Many years ago I needed a new computer for home. I used Win '95 and Solaris at work, but did not want a Win machine like everyone else. So, I ordered it with OS/2. The people at the computer store started going through a bunch of changes. First they told me I would have to pay for Windows AND OS/2. They said it was required to sell Windows with every machine. I told them 'no dice'. They had to deliver OS/2 at no additional cost or I was moving on. Eventually I did get the machine I wanted, and as I wanted it. However, I had to do some legwork to help them out. Turns out no one there had installed anything except Windows.

True, even after activation Windows does a good job of self-destructing. :D :)
