Here is my story:

Like an idiot I lost, then found my 2G Shuffle on Sunday afternoon while at a skatepark less than 48 hours after I purchased it. It had fallen off my belt loop (clipped) while skating. After I tracked down the kid that had found what he thought was an apple remote, I sadly found my shuffle's clip being bent to hell. Fortunately, the actual shuffle was not scratched or damaged, just the clip. It looked like a BMX rider ran over it and somehow managed to only bend the clip.

After twisting and "rebending" the clip (only after finish a great skate session), I could not get it back into a position where it could fit into the dock and charge. It was impossible without putting potentially damaging pressue onto the player.

Solution. I contemplating selling it at discount, full of music on craigslist and repurchasing a new shuffle. Instead I used a hack saw to take the entire clip off and slap a nice sticker on the back. Now I am probably the first person to have a clipless 2G shuffle, but I like the shuffle being in my pocket as it is. I managed to void my warranty and took the "ohhhhh" and "awww" factor away when showing it to newbies. Oh well, another day, another iPod.

From the article:
Unfortunately, a bent belt-clip makes docking with the shuffle's base which interfaces via multi-modal headphone jack.
Makes docking what? C'mon, please complete the sentence!... ;)

I'm hoping for the first accessory for this shuffle to be a dockless charging cable.:)

I hate it when people. But still I feel sorry for. You wouldn't expect that to. I guess you have to be really careful when using.

I think one of the first accessories planned is a USB plug built for the Shuffle.

Apparently, you can do it yourself, too...

How on earth did you bend the clip. I was just checking the strength of the clip and it would take some serious force to bend that clip. You must of jumped up and snagged that thing on something hard and then???

As for a USB straight docking plug, I wouldn't think that it would be that hard to make. I hope they make a simple battery recharger for quick road recharging.

Still, with the right leverage, I can see how it could happen. Something to keep in mind. In the above case, his theory was that someone rode a bike over it. Ouch!

USB adapter is available (it's not invented by Apple):

I would have thought the clip would be easy to bend if there was an attempt. Not like it would just bend. However, I would probably keep that badboy in my pocket anyway because it is so small.

I kind of wish the clip were detachable on purpose, just because the body of the player would then be SO amazingly small. But it's so small already, a little more thinness would be more cool than useful I guess. Better to have the simplicity of always being able to clip.

Yes, it's possible to bend the clip. It's not that hard. I was also able to fix it with a butter knife. Check out the photos on my site: tychounder.com/blog <p>

I just got a brand new orange 2nd gen shuffle. Charged it put it on my pants sat down and it bent like a alum foil. Major bummer, my wife even engraved it for me and now its screwed.
