I was just about to post this... in particular the Sept. 29 2006 dicussion of what panels Apple uses

Funny thing is I just got out an old 5 year old Eizo L357 monitor from my storeroom and it exhibits the same properties as this MBP screen. Namely the lousy viewing angle, colour shifts, and blotchy backlighting.

5 years old technology in a "cutting edge" MBP today!
