C2D MBP: Screen dims before sleep even though it is set not to

To be fair, this also happened on my G4 PB. I specifically have my energy saver unchecked on the "Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before sleep" and yet my screen dims well before it would go to sleep. This is intensely irritating. Does anyone have any ideas?

I am having the same issue. I have talked to my friend who has a CD MBP and he does not have this problem. Anyone else have an answer for this, please post. I am going to try and get some times tonight on how long this takes to happen, seems to be about 5-10min.

This is a power saving it on every computer my monitors do it by them self, my laptops do it as well its like a screen save but just puts the screen off :)

I don't think you understood the post.

1) Our displays have a sleep option. I have this set to turn on at x minutes, at which point the display will go black.

2) There is also a "dim before sleep" setting that can be turned on or off. I have mine turned off and yet the display still dims to half brightness after x minutes of activity, before the display is set to go to sleep as per #1.

I'm having the same issue.

The way it's SUPPOSED to work is that the screen is supposed to dim shortly before it goes into sleep mode. So if you have it set to 15 minutes it dims at 14 minutes (or whatever).

The way it's working now, it dims after about 1 minute of being inactive. This could just be taking a minute to read a webpage. Happens on battery power and while plugged in. Totally annoying.

You can turn off dimming, of course, but then it considers it a "custom" power scheme. Apple needs to fix this.

The thing is, my screen still dims even when I turn off dimming.

I had this problem but then fixed it.

I set the option for "put my computer to sleep when it is inactive for" - 1 hour.

Then I set the option for setting the display to sleep to 25 mins.

Then in the options, I unchecked the box that says to "automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep"

After that, it seems to work fine now.

I notice that this article was updated on 11/6/06. Hopefully they are working on getting this fixed. Are there other C2D MBP users out there with this issue? What about CD MBP, are you having the same issue.
I would change my settings but looks like I would have to do that everytime I restarted, what a pain. I guess I will just deal with it for now. :mad:

I am having the same problem, this is what happens with me:-

When booting up then logging on after a 1 minute or so the screen dims then when moving the track pad brings the screen back to normal then before the machine sleeps the screen dims, but this is on both mains and battery with the options turned off.

If i had the mains in and boot up then take the mains out it dont dim as it should do, same if i was using the battery and put the mains in it stop then aswell.

I used to get this with my iBook G4. It was really trivial, is your MB(P) definitely set to normal battery life?

If its not then it will dim, used to annoy the hell out of me.

Simple thing to try, worth checking though.
