Is there an iMovie workaround that will allow it to see cameras (or video convertors) that only use USB? I'm having a hard time finding an affordable dv bridge (like the Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge) that uses firewire to connect to the mac. I saw the post about trying to find an old camera that connects, but that still doesn't allow me to convert old vhs tapes or VHS-C tapes. If this question makes any sense to anyone....please help.

Could you hook the vhs up to a camcorder and record it to mini dv or 8mm and then firewire it to the computer? I have done that in the past. Do not expect very good quality.

Nope

Firewire is your only option here.

Look for a DV camcorder with a broken lens on craigslist or ebay. If it is passthrough enabled, you can use the camcorder to convert from analog to digital. It looks to me to be the cheapest option.
