Canon Applications

I don't know where to start really! I'm running through my old applications I transferred from my PowerBook, and seeing that the whole Canon application suite (for my EOS 350D) would take an age to download on my connection (at least 6 hours) I was wondering if any people who use it could sorta reassure me.

Are the apps Universal now?
Does anyone know if they managed to fix the 350D problem with the previous update, for some reason I could no longer make remote controller time lapse shots through USB.

Some of them are and some of them aren't DPP is which is probably the most important one...
