Is there any chance that current c2d macbook pros will address 4gb in the future?

Is there any chance that current c2d macbook pros will address 4gb ram in the future enabled in leopard or with a firmware update? Or is it proven that the chipset is limited to 3.2 gb.

The chipset is definitely limited to the 3.2 GB after system resources are accounted for...you'd need a 64-bit chipset in order to get beyond that.

well at least we get 64 bit processing which is a big plus. The 64-bit addressable ram shouldn't be a big deal anyways, but would be a benefit in a few years. That's probably why it's not in any notebooks today, and would be a very costly purchase for a notebook to have 4gb or more anyway

The next Merom update using the Crestline/965 chipset will be either 4 or 8GB or RAM.

Most likely 8GB of RAM.

These current 945 chipset machines are all limited to 3GB due to chipset limitations.

we should also keep in mind that this is probably the last hardware rev before leopard. So i guess this is the configuration that apple is planning on when leopard is released, so that in itself should say something about how it handles the new os.

i'm hoping leopard will be released at mwsf, it would be so awesome.
