The download service will be showcased but will only be available in June.
No USB 2 with iPods!

arn confirmed usb2. i'd say that's a given with his source record.

i could give a damn about the music service. i have never, ever wished i could get just one song on a cd. i like albums, albums are complete. songs are just advertising for albums... =)

on the other hand i have been hanging out for ipod's for 5 months now with all that talk about MW San Fran... card is ready and i just hope that availablity it immediate. but... i am in japan, and i doubt that. i really doubt that.

Hanging for another iPod myself... Monday better turn out some goods from those fruits in Cupertino, or... or... or... I'm gonna fall onto the floor and pound my fists!

Yeah.

So there, Steve.

You heard it here first.

Well the poster above said june for the music service, I'd wager we get iTunes4 whenever we get the music service online.

It seems like most people are keeping expectations realistic. That's a good sign. Hopefully the majority of us won't be dissapointed.:)

Boston Globe article 4/25/03 Business Section "Apple confirms interest in music business." Steve Jobs "There have been alot of rumors about alot the last few weeks ..... and some of them are true," when ask about buying a music company. "Apple has never made any offer to invest in or acquire a major music company," Jobs said. Analysts say he has expressed an interest.

It leaves us with disecting his statement, Monday will be the day! I agree with others, if we lower our expectations then we can't be disappointed. Steve may just cause cause great joy!

Well. It sure looks like these poll results are clear. It almost looks like everyone who took the poll draws their conclusions based on the same information. Hmm. Oh wait - everyone who voted visits macrumors! I suppose this would be a bad thing - if this site wasn't so darned accurate.

To be honest, I voted with the wishful thinkers. I mean, I want to know what this communication device is, and maybe by voting that it will come out, I might be able to cause it to come out..... ?

I think it's all right to keep wishing. I've read a few threads in the past though when people were completely ticked off when Apple didn't release a new tablet, some new hardware update, or whatever even though it was a bit of a pipe dream. I'm still "wishing" for some incredible new device, but I'm using Arn's solid resources to help me find my happy medium.

It was interesting that iTunes4 wasn't an option in the poll, but I understand that the various combinations grow exponantially with each new item, so we'd end up with a much longer poll.

I voted with the 'dreamers' mainly because of the speculation about the fact that Apple is making such a hubbub about this event. It would seem odd that they would make much ado about a simple update and new service. I'm suspicious about the prospective release of a whole new product.

However, even if it was nothing but a nice new iPod (no iTunes, download music service, or 'communication device'), I'd still be happy. I've been waiting for an iPod for a bit now...

I think we will see the new music service, ipods and iTunes 4. (I mean you have to have iTunes 4 to use the new music service right?) I really can't see them releasing a new non-music product to detract from a spectacular announcement!

I think that a new iPod and the music service will be released on Monday. I'm not sure about the communication device.

A lot of us are sick of buying CD's filled with medeocre music just so we can listen to 2 good tracks.

I completely agree with you. I'd say I have 25+ CD's that I only like 2 or 3 tracks on. Having the ability to preview a track and download only those I want will be great.

As for my predictions:
1. I think we are all in agreement that Monday will definitely bring us an Apple music service.
2. New iPods have to be introduced as well.
3. iTunes 4 will be the gateway for the music service, so we'll probably see it announced. It may be released, depending on when the music service goes online.

I'd say it's going to be some kind of device that allows communication. :D ;)

Seriously, I have no idea what this device could be. I'd love to have an Apple PDA.

Also, this is just a rumor. No such device may even be in the works.

I would think iTunes4 would also be announced. If you download the songs through iTunes or .Mac there needs to be some record of what you've bought, so if your computer crashes or you lose your connection mid-download you aren't wasting 99cent each try. So i would image another section (similar to library or playlists) in iTunes that had 'Purchased music', your .mac account might have this as well so you could grab the songs from another machine (maybe?).

Although, does anyone believe this will be a mac-only music service? with iTunes4 i'm sure it will be an extremely EASY to use service, but do really think all the music companies would join if they knew their products could only be purchased by >5% of the market? Maybe it's a way to test the water with Apple and then move to PC or maybe a reason to switch? If it was a cross platform system then i could see alot of PC people having to go to the Apple site to browse and search to download via the website rather than iTunes.

first off, we can all assume iTunes 4 and the Apple Music Service are the same thing. Rewriting iTunes in such a major way is definitely a whole revision. Secondly, apple will have failsafes built in, so you won't crash and lose your song...

I'm saying web cam. More integrated with iLife and the OS, but basically, a web cam.

You might see minor updates across the iLife suite. iTunes for AAC at least, perhaps iPhoto and iMovie to allow access to 'communication device' and iChat, which really isn't part of iLife, and may already have the widgets within to hook in, they just need to be unlocked.

ooh, I know what the add ons to the mouse and keyboard are now... thumbprint recognition. Hello Big Brother.

Anyone planning to visit their local Apple Store for the announcement tomorrow?

There hasn't been a confirmed webcast or sattelite feed with tomorrows announcements have their?

I suspect little more than an update to the online Apple Store, and, perhaps, product in the stores. Actually, beyond online upgrades and downloads, you might have to wait for product... we'll see.

Not getting my hopes up...

Probably just new overpriced iPods and a music service that is only available in the US.

iPod. Downloading service. Mind controlling ray guns, to be distributed to Mac users everywhere. We shall rule the world, yet!

i'm betting on iPods, music-service, iTunes4, possibly an announcement of apple buying universal from vivendi (but i doubt it) and as for a communication device (if there is one) i'd bet on a media transmission device to extend the digital hub.. (you know, play your tunes and videos and such through your entertainment system with a remote (8in enclosure) that controls your computer and media device.

i think that would be nice!!
:D
