200GB Hard Drive

Has anyone actually received a C2D MBP with a 200GB Hard drive yet? I can't decide between the 160GB/5400rpm and the 200GB/4200rpm. I want the space, but don't want performance to be sacrificed too much. I'm pretty sure that the 80GB drive in my 17" Powerbook G4 is 4200rpm and it seems to work fine.

Yeah, I saw that thread, but it is all hypothetical. I'm interested in knowing the practical (how the drive actually performs in the MBP itself).

Do you need the extra storage space... if so, procure it.

i'd personally go for faster rpm, since you can always add more drive space externally. can't do that with speed :rolleyes:

I just got one with the 200 GB drive. I don't do anything drive intensive, so I can't comment on that. But, in my normal usage of it, it's more than adequate.

hi, i have black macbook w/ a 200gb HD. have all my photos, music and programs (photoshop/indesign/quark/etc) and still have 125gb left. if you got the $ go for it. the 4200 is not an issue at all.

Glossy, and loving every inch of it. Very sexy, deep blacks, etc. I don't use my laptop as the end all for color reference anyway, so I figure I'd go for the prettier "plasma tv (according to the guy sitting behind me on my latest flight)" look.

Both are very clear, I'm sure they're very easy on the eyes. I've only seen the glossy, a friend of mine owns one. Watching a movie anyhow was a joy.

i played with a glossy mbp in the store for like 2 hours. It was awesome and didn't strain my eyes at all. so i chose to buy a glossy.

OK... I have had my MacBook Pro for over 3 weeks now and I love it.

-My battery lasts for about 3 hours (I use my MBP mainly for photoediting)

-The SuperDrive is wisper quiet

-The Core 2 Duo processor is very fast, but when working with high end programs (such as Photoshop, Aperture and Final Cut Pro) the fan gets a little noisy

-The Glossy screen looks AMAZING

-AND-

-The 200GB Toshiba PMR feels just as fast as the 5400 RPM HD in my old iBook G4 and the net size is 186.3GB
