Seriously though, I wouldn't be surprised if we see more stories like this is the future. As iPods saturate America more and more, and as the screens get brighter and brighter, hikers will get safer and safer!

I used to pick mushrooms in B.C. I can testify to the fact that it's really easy to get lost, if you don't have an excellent sense of direction, or a GPS, map and compass. I always used the latter. Imagine walking all over a trackess forest with your head down, concentrating on looking everywhere for tiny visual clues. I helped search for lost pickers--common.
I picked pine mushrooms for $$$ in the fall. They are prized by the Japanese. I stopped picking because the price plummeted. One year I made $3,000 in one week. Those days are gone. It was best "job" I've ever had.
Pine mushrooms, by the way, are the most delicious mushrooms on earth.
I've also picked chantarelles and morels.
When I move back to Canada, it'll be to live in a 'shroom zone.
